Nytoda was a great copper dragon who lived in the depths of the rocky regions of the desert, an uncommon sight for those who lose their way. She would often provide aid or transport in exchange for an amusing and often mundane reward. Needless to say, over the centuries she built up quite a hoarde of useless junk, which Astrid was brought up alongside.

Astrid found most of the stuff fascinating and was keen on learning more about the people who had gifted it to them. 'Course, as a young dragon she couldn't just waltz into town and introduce theirself without causing a bit of a stir. Their interest in magic was born out of a desire to find a way to become human just as much as desire to cause trouble and destroy stuff (all in good fun, of course!).

Like any kid, Astrid reached a point where they were annoyed by every single thing their mother did for them and wanted to rebel. So of course, when they came across an experimental scroll in their mother's private hoard - with notes of human transformation - they used it immediately. They became human! Briefly. Within a few hours they began turning back, and settled as a half-human hybrid. Well, shit.

Theye gathered up the most expensive belongings they could find and made their way to the closest town to sell them. Excited to finally be able to meet new people, join society, be normal (mostly), to go on adventures and stuff. Though, slightly afraid of what would happen if they could never find a way to turn back, and even more afraid of the scorn of their mother if she found out what happened!
