About...

42345782_t2S5ppyTiPfcbKr.pngBlessed with the power to transform poisonous gold (as well as silver/copper) into inert talc, Narayani finds their Flame to be best used as a public service. They travel Flame-friendly countries, offering their work for a modest fee, occasionally arriving on request to corrupted areas. They keep their head down on visits, choosing to ignore politics and hope for safe travels regardless.

Despite the good their Flame provides, they can't help but feel alienated from the rest of the world, finding purpose only in purging the cursed metals. Though they've found companionship here and there, they can't picture themselves settling down, or raising a family... despite their burning desire to do so. Duty, after all, is more important.

Currently, they're lodging in Cellest, fallen in love again with the allure of Falacer's beautiful island.

Personality...

Silent and graceful, though inexplicably mournful. Their touch, speech, and behaviors are gentle, voice barely above a whisper, as they find distance easiest to cope with. Though they fall in love easily and adore peoples' minute quirks, they can never find the words to express that infatuation. All the better, though, as they know they're flippant and adverse to commitment.

Don't mistake their drifting for ennui, though, as they find much purpose and meaning in purging gold.

  • Narayani's Flame allows them to "take" gold in to their hair, and over the course of a few days, drain it out as inert talc. They have a limit to how much they can convert at once.

Flame hereditary boons that are specific to bloodlines and individuals, supplementing their natural magic with various unique powers. Most mortals of this universe have Flame too weak to use.

Heat • how "hot" a Flame burns; dictates how powerful it is and how often its powers can be called upon. From strongest to weakest, the heats are: Dominion > Harbinger > Throne > Glory > Pillar > Wings > Servant.

Passion • the unique powers of a Flame - what its conceptual wavelength resonates with, broadly describing the powers it bestows. Passions can be incredibly specific, or very broad (ex. the Blue Flame of Victory). Every passion has a unique color associated with it.

Stoking • the act of making a Flame stronger, potentially enough to increase its heat into another. Not all Flames can be stoked. 'Stoking' generally involves doing things that align with the Flame's Passion (ex. a Flame of art is stoking by creating, appreciating, or collecting art).

Shearing • the act of passing a Flame on, usually by having children (though there are other means of separating someone from their Flame). The process 'shears' and weakens the original Flame, usually almost completely.

Soot-seeing • the practice of reading an individual's internal Flame to understand its color, and therefore its Passion. Soot-seers can also vaguely tell if a Flame is capable of being stoked. It is a difficult and imprecise art.

Falacer Furina
Protector of Cellest, the capital of the Isle of Shattered Stars. He liberated it from Adleri Avast, an abusive dictator utilizing the island's magical properties for selfish gain. A central figure in the Isle's religion and public face, though he has little actual governing power and is happily a figurehead.

Adleri Avast
A dictator once abusing the Isle of Shattered Stars' Moon-Sister-Lagoon to bolster his own magic and Flame, intent on using it to conquest neighboring Lacraya. He was suddenly and utterly defeated by Falacer Furina, and his magic shattered and used to power opals Falacer wears.

Joy Dream
Falacer's personal bodyguard, who tails him just about everywhere. Stern and irritable, he combs Falacer's temple for thieves, layabouts, and criminals, and happily reports to Falacer his progress. Though Falacer has no real need for a guard, Joy keeps his job - and is often encouraged, lovingly, by Falacer himself.

Cyrrdven
A world-renowned potionsmaster, capable of creating just about anything under the sun. Equally notorious is his ego - not big enough to be easily bruised, but bursting at the seams with praise and gifts. The sheer quality and effectiveness of his work wards away those looking to take him down a notch - not that he cares.

Solstrale
A temporary resident of the Isle who accidentally assisted in defeating Freshwater 1505, a behemoth plaguing the isle's water-core purification system. Invited to Falacer's table for the honor, they find themselves lost in the sudden rush of attention and expectations, struggling to balance fulfilling work and indulging in their successes.

Keeper
A travelling writer who logs his journeys and publishes book series on the world and his exploration of it. Though his atlases are in-depth, thorough, and useful, his most popular work is cheap travel guides to various nations. Usually can be found on the Isle of Shattered Stars.

The Ardor
One of the major belief systems of the world, which believes that ten Dominion-Flamed individuals crafted the world from their Flame and bestow their blessings on certain individuals.

Fervor
One of the major belief systems of the world, which says that four creator deities unite to defeat the world-eater at the end of days. Pleasing one of the four creators can ensure a beneficial reincarnation in the next era.

The Isle of Shattered Stars
When the suns and moons shattered and parts fell to earth, the largest piece of the first moon plunged straight down into an enormous lagoon. It irradiated the waters with powerful magics and Flame, cleansing wounds, bolstering power, and bringing many a refugee to its island. On its surface are Cellest and the Shrine of Shifting.

Cellest
The major city on the Isle, though many smaller villages dot around the Moon-Sister-Lagoon. A religious beacon for Ardor pilgrims and under the diligent protection of the Furine, its streets bustle with open-air markets and dozens of tourists. Supposedly, the Ardor convened on a drop of land to draft the world, which would eventually become Cellest.

The Shrine of Shifting
A large shrine dedicated to the Ardor, though it primarily worships Mesechev, the triple-Flamed deity of the sun, moon, and stars. Formed by many Maweth Coup refugees, it sits on a cliff overlooking Cellest and the Lagoon. Managed by the Star Sisters, there are elaborate and secretive rites that they must take to ascend the ranks and delve deeper into the temple's winding tunnels.
