Kalian is the second prince of his empire and the youngest man to become the commander of the paladin knights. He is second-in-line for the throne, but has no desire to inherit it. He is close with his older brother and strongly supports him as the future monarch. Because of his strict imperial education, Kalian has perfected the patient, regal and courteous demeanor befitting a royal. However, he is actually quite apathetic behind that prince charming-like mask; he has little compassion for anyone or anything (except towards his brother and fiancee), and will help others not because he cares about them, but to maintain the royals' reputation. He's good at showing an amicable face and accommodating others, while at the same time, keeping them at a certain distance. Pretending to be virtuous is his forte. As a knight commander, Kalian is fierce and strict, ensuring that everyone is training adequately and are rewarded appropriately on their merits. He hates it when knights don't take training seriously just because they are in 'peacetime'.

Kalian is engaged to Larabelle, his childhood friend and a duke's daughter. It was a political arrangement at first, but they eventually fell in love with each other. She's one of the select few people who can truly understand him and deal with his on/off persona, and Kalian would do anything for her. He becomes a little clingy (mostly in private), and sometimes will act in a way that would incite her jealousy. His brother often teases him that he's 'whipped.'
