After all attempts to reverse damage done to the planet's ozone layer failed, nations across the globe came together to devise a way to maintain the planet's overall stability. With the impending threat of a total atmospheric collapse, action had to be taken quickly. Space travel and habitation of other planets was an impossible task given the current world state. Instead, top research facilities have worked in collaboration to produce a Synthetic Atmosphere.

The introduction of a Synthetic Atmosphere ensured the continuation of human society, however, it could not perfectly replicate and reproduce every effect of our previous natural atmosphere. Though it shields the planet enough from the sun, warmth is not held by the atmosphere the way it had been before, the overall global temperature has since decreased. Interestingly, the Synthetic atmosphere is unable to reproduce Rayleigh scattering. Due to this, the sky appears black, as if it is constantly night. With the lowering temperatures and constant darkness, civilisations have begun to shift their focuses towards energy production in attempts to keep their cities warm and alight.

Any sign of life outside of cities soon met untimely demises. All plants, animals and general wildlife struggled to survive under the new harsh living conditions on Earth. This was not something the cities had accounted for or prepared for. A small selection of plants were able to be collected from outside the cities and brought in to secure containment. Flora is grown and regulated under strict regulations and any operations including the continued growth of flora is monitored closely in designated facilities. Now seen as a rarity, plants are a commodity, only owned by those in the upperclasses who can afford the expense to own such a thing. Something that used to be as simple desk plant is now a symbol of societal status and power.

In unfortunate events, agriculture and factory farms are no longer seen as a viable option to meet the demand for food among the dense populations of the cities. Companies have now begun turn to artifical and synthetic foods to meet the demand of starving consumers. Supplements will provide the necessary nutrients and vitamins needed for a sustainable life. Though they may lack the essential nutrients, the low quality of these synthetic foods have made it easier to produce en masse. Meals will be more easily accessible through designated food halls and vending machines soon to be placed throughout the city.

The state of the world is worsening. With resources and energies being stretched thin, populations have started to crowd more closely together. Anyone not living within a major city will likely freeze or starve to death. Population densities have majorly increased. Human settlements are now spread very far apart as people solely live in cities, with no living beings, towns or small settlements to be found inbetween. Citizens have taken to naming the dark and barren stretch of land between cities 'The Deadzone'. Transport is now only permitted to operate locally. Air travel and trainlines previously established between cities are now set to be discountinued, and in some cities even prohibited. If citizens would like to travel between cities, they must find their own way through the Deadzone, though chances of survival are minimal.

Altrais has now become a well established city. Faced with the inability to send power to the outer city regions on the west, and having the ocean to the east, the city only has one way to expand now. Upwards. A second city level is currently under construction. Citizens will be allowed to freely traverse between either level. The expansion will provide housing and the necessary facilities needed for the rapidly growing population. More power production facilities and factories also resume construction as more energy and resources are required.

Today Altrais sees the completion of it's newest level; Sector-S. This now marks the city's 7th level. Being the most expensive expansion to the city yet, and paired with the incredible views of the city given it's high position, Sector-S is set to be the most expensive level to live on in Altrais. The Tech Company known as SAO offers its services to keep Sector-S safe and maintain peace. This offer comes a week before the date that SAO's newest headquarters are set to open on Sector-A. Both Sector-A and Sector-S will continue to be off-limits to all citizens with Level-B clearance or lower.

Population happiness continues to rapidly decline following the announcment of more energy cutbacks for the lower levels. It is estimated that living conditions in the lower levels will continue to decrease as the central heating systems lose power in the cutbacks. This news comes only a week after yet another major lower city collapse. With more collapses and news of cutbacks hit, citizens of the lower levels are beginning to express their frustrations with the new city management. It has been observed that those living in Sectors C and D will gather near the factory pipes and air ducts for heat. Crime rates are spiking as rebel groups are beginning to emerge in the wake of recent news.

SAO enterprise sees the opening of its first data center and server building. The company expansions have been funded directly by the Altrais government as they seek to implement a more advanced and reliable security and survelliance system throughout the city. Citizen biometric information and city logs will be transferred over to SAO systems as they will be given clearance to oversee all technological operations in the city hence forth. Citizens can be identified in miliseconds by the advanced survelliance cameras SAO operates all over the city.

A massive factory explosion has been reported in the lower levels of the city. Though the energy plant has been inactive for a number of years, a leak from the abandoned and unattended energy reserves were sparked causing the explosion. A minor collapse has been noted, however the casualty number seems to be almost none as the immediate surrounding areas have been mostly abandoned. It is estimated that the resulting chemical smoke is likely to cause more harm than the initial explosion as it settles in Sector-D. 2 suspects/victims have been discovered at the scene. Due to injuries, SAO Databases were unable to identify the 2 found at the scene. No operation to recover the victims will go forward. Cleanup is set to commence to cover up the damages and remove SAO's association with the plant.

Rebel allegiances continue to run rampant in Altrais. It has been reported that the operations of these groups tend to be kept to their own respective levels, with no evidence of any groups taking their operations to the upper levels. Engagement between opposing allegiances has been reported, but so far these conflicts have not been a concern to residents of Sectors S and A, and pose no threat to SAO. Technologies. As such, no further action is currently required.
