π Siderea
Squirreled away in an obscure little corner of Entirety lies the planet of Siderea, hand-sculpted as an act of love and play by Entirety's two progenitors and another being of only slightly less power. These beings - the High Star, the Great Fade, and the Vast Glow, who together were known as the Creators - eventually moved on with their lives, ascending a series of mortals to watch over the planet as gods.
As a planet created near the dawn of Entirety, Siderea has gone through uncountable world-shaking events, suffering through many tragedies and witnessing many triumphs. Through it all the Siderean pantheon holds fast, despite the pantheon being a mess of interpersonal issues even before considering the world below...
Having only recently - within the past hundred years or so - become accessible to offworlders, Siderea now finds itself with an uncertain future. It is a planet of absolutely boundless potential, with its abundance of primordial forces making its populace exceptionally powerful. That combined with a history that becomes vaster and more intriguing the further you dig has drawn all sorts of eyes to it, and not all of them have good intentions.
...For the gods, though, watching from high above, it's more or less just the latest mess on their platter.
(Siderea is more of a setting than a story, with contributions from memeduchess and Exuro. It's themed heavily after Western astrology, though with more than a few twists thrown in. For more information on it, check the world!)
The 15 gods of Siderea, each serving as a representative of their respective zodiac. Their lone duty is to watch over Siderea and keep it safe in the absence of the Creators, though the extent to which they should meddle with mortal affairs has been a subject they've debated since time immemorial. Despite everything they all more or less manage to get along and serve as the setting's main characters.
Direct aides to the Siderean pantheon, the archangels help relieve some of the burdens the gods carry throughout eternity. They did not all "join" at once, with one representative of each zodiac trickling in over time upon their deaths thanks to their souls being marked for ascension by the Vast Glow. While none of them were directly chosen by their associated god, the majority of them had some link to the gods in general beforehand or at least served as a major historical figure, making the relations between the two groups pretty positive.
Once upon a time a conspiracy developed to overthrow the gods, and the Facets were the ultimate result. Specially bred and raised, the Facets were attuned to sacred gemstones and told that they were meant to steal some of the gods' power and compensate for their flaws and weaknesses. At the end of their rigorous training they partook in a ritual to see this dream through, which went horrifically wrong for the Facets themselves but more or less as planned for their overseers, turning them into gem constructs overloaded with divine power.
To make a long story short, the gods' attention was drawn and they took pity on the Facets. After handling their overseers, the gods decided there was worth in the concept of aides directly made to contrast and criticize them and decided to make their link official. The exact nature of their connection is too complex to get into here, but the Facets wound up with the ability to access divine power with the caveat of being inexorably bound to the soul of their associated god.
As one might expect, the relationship between the Facets and gods has been historically tense. Initially attempting to work against them, the Facets begrudgingly came to know and trust the gods and vice versa. By modern day the gods trust them as much as they do the archangels, but given that each Facet was deliberately made to contrast their respective god... well, the relationships aren't quite so smooth.
Formerly an obscure kingdom in the middle of nowhere made of disgraced nobles in exile, Aethiopia was mostly destroyed by a rampaging Cetus in an incident triggered by the rebellious Princess Andromeda. Seeking refuge for herself, the Cetus in question, and those who believed in her ideals, Andromeda promptly set up shop in Scorpius' secret domain and told him to just deal with it. Deal with it he has, albeit somewhat begrudgingly, leading to the creation of an eclectic little community tucked away in the oceanic abyss.
Siderea's lightly-reigning governmental body, the Siderean Council is made up of a sizeable number of councilmembers selected under varying circumstances. Part democracy and part meritocracy with just a sprinkle of divine intervention, the Siderean Council represents Sidereans from all walks of life.
Long ago, a Sagittarius named Orion did a solid job of putting gods out of commission before he got obliterated from existence. This section are for those who actively follow(ed) he or his boyfriend, Rigel, who out of grief and rage proceeded to initiate a much worse apocalypse later down the road.
