Aiyana lead a rather mundane life, until she finds herself at the base of a stone staircase, leading up to a modest shrine. It's here that her family secrets as well as her own life unravel in front of her.

Slowly she learns of a cult that worships the deities of life and death, and how intimately linked to  herself it truly is. The veil is removed, and the portal to the Spirit World unfurls before her- the world where the dead roam. Awaiting the next step in their life cycles.

The shrine holds dear to it a legend of two bodies that will be vessels for the Devil Queen and Devil King. That they must maximize the human misery threshold, feed the devil hiding within, to birth it. 

Aiyana learns she is one, while a friendly boy at the shrine named Yukio is the other. She struggles with allowing herself to go through the mental and physical torture to birth the devil, and fighting back, wanting nothing to do with her destiny.
