Skaia

According to legend, the Floating Island of Skaia once existed on the back of a elemental - back during the Age of Chaos. The people consisted of those who lost or were uprooted from their homes - the titan, K'ahsian, took pity on the people and allowed them to build upon its back massive back - where a clan of dragons had been residing for generations.

With the help of the dragons, a sprawling city was built along K'ashian's back - named Skaia - and in the mountains along its shoulders and neck a temple was built - named The Cloud Convergence.

The dragons and the people of Skaia lived in peace and some even volunteered to work together to protect their home and the titan from harm. Skaia would become well known for their dragon riders - or dragoons, as they called themselves. They were good at their job, and for a while Skaia evaded the ongoing calamity.

This peace would not last forever and when war came for them they fought tooth and nail with K'ashian until the titan was felled. With the last of its remaining power, K'ashian vanished from the battle with all who lived upon its back only to reappear far from harm - high above a massive, crystaline ocean. K'ashian died - and what was left of it's body contained the city and the mountains. Deep, below the mountains, K'ashian's heart remained - it's will keeping its deceased form in the air and keeping those that lived on it safe, to an extent.

Now, Skaia has become a bustling melting pot attracting travelers from all over. Portals connect Skaia to the land, and the beaches, below - and additional portals stationed about the city act as easy transport from district to district - or even up to the Cloud Convergence. The dragoons are few now, and exist in secret - known only to the council and the guardian up in the Convergence. Instead, a simple force of guards act as the primary protection for the city - though most of their work consists of keeping the peace and assisting during a rare natural disaster.
