I remember the day I made Sonie. November 12th, 2012. It was around 9:00 at night, I remember that because Teen Titans reruns played every day from 9-10, and I’d watch it every single day. Season 2 episode 2 of the show was playing, and the scene where the Beast Boy look alike dog first showed up was playing. I absolutely fell in love with how it looked. I can’t remember why, but I loved how it was drawn, so I decided to make a dog that looked similar. And thus, Sonie was born.

Originally Sonie’s red markings were blue (Excluding her scars). That lasted a grand total of 1 day before I changed everything to red. The reason why? Flipnote studio on the DS only allowed you to use two colours, and in order to make brown you had to use red and black. I wanted to use her for animation, and I wanted the animations to be coloured, so I couldn’t use blue.

Sonie honestly hasn’t changed much design wise over the years. I changed up her ears quite a bit, going back and forth between floppy and pointy, but ultimately decided I liked her original floppy ears best. The only other major change I did was desaturating her colour palette because it was too neon.

I almost replaced Sonie in December of 2012. I was going to replace her with a rabbit raccoon hybrid, named Bubble. Obviously, that didn’t happen, and instead Bubble became one of Sonie’s friends, shortly followed by Thunder (both of which are also turning 7 in December)

Anyway, I know it’s a bit silly to ramble on about a fictional character, but Sonie means a lot to me, so I thought I’d say something nice in honor of her 7th birthday. Thank you so much for reading!
