Thinking about writing commissions

Posted 3 years, 5 months ago by circlejourney

I've considered doing writing comms on a couple of occasions, but then I realise I don't know how it'll work with my writing style. I tend to need pretty deep knowledge of the subject in order to write about it, and I wonder if people who take writing commissions ever run into trouble trying to get the info you need for the writing. Or do you take a lot of creative licence? And do you send progressive drafts (that seems kind of hard, considering it takes quite a bit of time to read a piece of writing)?

That's always my concern! I don't even write fanfics about a work until I've experienced the entire thing, so I feel like I would always be missing intricacies from someone's characters, since there usually isn't that much material.

I used to do artsy profile writing requests for characters that weren't developed much, based off of prompts/themes, but unless someone isn't particularly picky about characterization for a developed character, it seems tricky?

Idk it's something I've always been interested in too but get hung up on, so I'm curious!

I feel the same about all of that haha, I don't know that I'd be able to produce consistent enough writing because of the same reasons. I may just start with requests or PWYW or something like that!

Ah, yes, I think I would have to ask lots of questions too, I don't know if I'm ready to do it as commissions but requests sound like fun!
