LF Procreate Advice

Posted 2 years, 7 months ago by Sweetspea

Hello hello everyone!!

As always I hope everyone’s doing well and staying safe out there!  And I hope nobody minds this little bulletin I’m tossing out there to the amazing art communities on Toyhouse!

After a long time of debating I’ve decided to jump headfirst into art again, and since college is coming up again anyhow I decided to get myself a new iPad Pro 12.9 inch with an Apple Pencil and procreate, just to get started with something I know a lot of people are comfortable using!!  I adore the program to bits, but of course I’m not a master of any sort right off the bat and I’m a tad lost on how to get started!  So I thought why not reach out to the amazing people here I’ve had the utmost privilege of getting to know over the years!

So please, help a tired college gal out!  I’d just love any advice or links to any tutorials at all or anything at all to help teach me!  I’m also not quite fond of any of the default brushes yet (although HB and 6B pencil are my mains so far, although I feel like I have to go through the lines a few times and god is bucket filling those spaces with color is hard!) so I’d love links to any premade brushes y’all especially enjoy, free or not!  I’ve obviously been a huge fan of art for so long but I’ve never had the opportunity myself to really dive into it, so I’m over the moon I get to do it now!  And my work may not be the best, or even good, but it’s mine and I’m gonna enjoy doing it and that’s all that matters!

Thank you all so darn much in advance!!  I know people get started at this so much younger than me, but better late to the party than never!  I want to make everyone awful little fanarts and doodles and ahh I can’t color or anything to save my life please help this clueless gal out so she can surprise people with silly fanart!!

Hey Sweets!! It's never too late to get started ^^ I'm afraid I can't help with brushes too much (I've been using the basic ones.. I've gotten used to them simply because I can't find many brush packs I actually like better ;0;/ ) But I've found there is a treasure trove of how-to videos for procreate techniques on Youtube. It's super friendly to beginners, I love it after using it for a couple years now! Though there are things about it that aren't immediately clear; this tips and tricks video really helped me out in the beginning. The quick menus save my entire life, I have my main one set to my common brushes and also to flip the canvas either way ^^ hopefully it can help you find a good workflow too! And the second vid has good insight on precision techniques ♥
