Almost back...maybe......

Posted 5 years, 6 months ago by circlejourney

Oof, my schedule got clogged up over the past month (surprise, master's degrees are hard work), and I haven't been able to interact here much. My apologies to people who were gonna commission me, people having trouble on threads I run, those who wanted to communicate with me more etc.

The good news is, I just made an AR Unity game, and I couldn't be prouder of myself.

My pile of notifications ever grows, and I don't know if I'll ever get to look at all the forum responses that have been posted on the threads I follow :( but I do like to pop in here every now and then to take a break from my life in general, which is something I appreciate.

I'm probably gonna be here more starting next month—maybe. I hope. That's if I don't land this job I'm getting interviewed for soon. So I suppose if I'm too busy to be here again, that'd be because I got the job, which would be a good thing. See you soon!

Aaaa good luck for your job, and congrats for your game!! I wish you all the best for your future projects, no matter what they are ♥

Aw thank you for your well-wishes! I'll still be lurking around here until I have more free time, though I may not post as many detailed forum responses. TH is part of my daily routine now haha

AAA NO WORRIES SEEE YOU SOON AND GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR DEGREE AND I HOPE YOU GET YOUR JOB

Thank you so much! I will do my best (by which I mean memorise their website so I know exactly what to say :p), and even if I don't get the job it means I'll have lots of free time (and I can do commissions again)!

what's the ar unity game?? *eyes*

Hehe, it's incomplete and quite simple, but the gist of it is: You have two AR marker cards for positioning a bunch of seaweed (the spawn point) and a hole ("home base") onscreen. Once you've got those set up, you tap a button to spawn a fish in the seaweed. By default, it'll swim straight to the hole, but every now and then, coins spawn around the area, and the fish will pick the nearby ones up before swimming back home.

There's a big predator fish roaming the area and the instant a fish appears, it makes a beeline for it, and eat it if it doesn't get home in time. The longer it spends away (picking up coins), the more likely it is to be eaten. So the whole game is a balancing act between positioning your seaweed and home such that your fish pick up the most coins while also avoiding getting eaten.

I'm really glad I got it working, I was kinda tearing my hair out over it for a while!

ooh, that sounds interesting! if it's ever uploaded publicly somewhere please let me know!

I'd be happy to make the phone app and resources available yeah! I'll probably make a post about it here as well.

PS I do still check TH every day and I won't miss any comments, pings and messages!

Aw heck, life always has to come first unfortunately. :p Totally understandable! Best of luck landing that job!!!!

Thank you so much for your well wishes! Wish I could be here more >:

At the very least I hope I'll have more free time when I'm working than I do now. was really looking forward to that break but hey, money's not a bad thing to have. A win either way!

Totally! And even if you're still busy for a bit, I'm sure once you settle into a groove you'll be able to be on more and do what all you want. :)

Thanks B) a break's gotta come eventually, and then I'll finally take a vacation and maybe go home?

That's a good plan!!

I hope you get the job, I understand how hard it is to find work. I hope you are able to relieve some stress soon!

Thank you! Normally I'd go back to doing commissions if I had the time, but an actual steady job where I go in every few days would be nice, I've never had one ;-;

You're welcome!!! ;u; Oh man a steady job would be nice, that way you have a constant money intake. Plus, once you get a job, it's easier to get more. ;u; I think you can do it! Just have to act confident, and prepare yourself for some interview questions! There's a ton of common ones online! You can ace this! ;u;

Yeah I've been frantically reading their website/job interview tips, it's not a big role but I still wanna land it ;-; thank you so much for your well wishes!

It may not be a big role now, but it'll open up so many opportunities in the future! ;u; Just gotta climb your way up the ladder! But you're welcome! ;u; I'm glad you have been reading it! When is your interview?

also you made an AR unity game!? I can't believe I glossed that part over! Congrats! What's it about?

Thanks! Interview's in two days' time and it'll be my first job interview ever, so I'm, I think understandably, extremely nervous.

Also, I added that bit about the game in an edit after posting it hahaha, I thought I should let people know what I've been up to with my degree. There's basically two markers (like, cards or QR codes) for positioning a growth of seaweed and a home base. When you hit a button, a fish spawns in the seaweed and swims home, but if there's a coin nearby, it'll go pick it up first.

But! There's like, a large predator fish patrolling the area that will eat them if they don't get back home in time, so you have to position the markers and time the swims right to maximise coin-getting while also minimising the number of fish that get eaten. And all this happens "irl", say on a tabletop, with your phone as a viewer!
