invoice or send money on paypal?

hey! I started commissions a while ago, but only recently started using PayPal. I was wondering if was better for the client to send the money to my acc, or if it’s better if to send them an invoice. I’m not old enough for PayPal yet, so I use my parents so it’s much better if they send it to me rather then I sending an invoice since I don’t have access, but I was wondering if it was that much of a difference, or really reccommend. Sorry if this is a dumb question, I want to make sure I’m doing everything right! Thank you!

Not sure how just sending works cuz i've never used it, but I personally like how invoices work. you (the seller) can customize the invoice and add some notes to it for yourself, it also saves the invoices to your account and i find it an easy way to keep track of what youve earned. from what I can tell, other than that theres not much difference between the two

It involves more work, but invoices are definitely superior to just sending money imo. As a buyer, I like having the artist set the amount I pay so that there is no chance of confusion - did they want me to pay the fee? Was there an extra charge for an accessory? etc. Having payments canceled and then having to resend them or send extra money is rather bothersome.

As an artist invoices protect you as you make it explicit what you are selling to your client, and helps artists keep organized. It also protects artists from common scams such as overpayment scams (more info here).

wallstaples thank you! I’ll look into that! I’m super new to PayPal and doing commissions so I appreciate your help!

nyainou don’t worry they are! I never logged into it, I only have the email! that’s mostly my issue, as I can’t log in 😅 I mostly relied off of emails to see if the client sent the money- and thank you! I was always worried about chargebacks but I’m sure that invoices may be the way to go haha

crimsonalloy thanks for your response! it makes way more sense to use invoices- makes less confusion between buyer and artist! I probably will stick with invoices then!
