i like to use gimp! It's a photo editing program mostly but I drew in it for many years and I think a lot of it's tools are actually pretty nice for pixel work. It has animation capabilities too!
What do you use to draw normal art (NOT pixel art)
I wanna try pixel art but I don't know what program to get to do it .____. any opinion is welcome here (preferably a program I can make pixel animations with)
I prefer to use photoshop for large pixels even tho I use clip studio for normal drawings.
But I also use a mobile app called Pixel Studio and it's great honestly, it's free and has a lot of features, I use it for smaller pixels and icons.
I've heard A LOT of good things about aesprite: https://www.aseprite.org/
When i was younger i used graphicsgale (which is free now!) https://graphicsgale.com/us/
Both of those programs allow animation = )
Now im super lazy and just use SAI2 with stabilization up high, and if I'm doing animation i save the piece as a psd and take it to photoshop. Photoshop has never been easy to work with re: pixels in my experience haha
i use ms paint!!! it's not great for animating or transparency but i think its a great, simple tool!!
Aesprite is good, but honestly i've always thought the way the palette system works was confusing. Really any art program will work, all you need to do is work at a small size (64x64,32x32, etc) and use a 1px brush with anti-aliasing turned off.
