I'm not so sure about TH cause I've never sold adopts here. But I do have some experience with selling adopts on DeviantArt- for d/a I would suggest posting the adopts and submitting them into adoptable groups for more people to see, then you can get some people interested in buying the adopts. (I'm sorry if you were aiming for just TH- but I figured I'd submit some kind of feedback since there weren't any responses-)
Hewwo! I'm curious on how do you start selling adopts, and where to advertise for it!
I think when you start seeling adopts, i usually just draw a chibi design for the fullbody front ans maybe back. Then a headshot of the character in yiur normal style with the color pallete next to it (alwaye keep the color pallete!!)
Personally, i dont think you should bid until enough people know about yohr and you have enough people. I would start with onky ABs! Ab is the set price that means people will 100% get that character when they give it to you. SB is the minimum they have to pay. Then MI is how much you are allowed to add to the bid at a tome but a MI is not necessary.
You can sell your charcaters for money, other characters, art, DA points, objects, giftcards, game codes, anything really!
Instagram has some accounts you can join to start advertising. I have some accounts you could join if youre interested! They also have great examples. On toyhouse, use as many tags as you can that relate to your character to advertise (OTA, humanoids, adopt, BTA, ETC) . Then people can search them up.
I would get a paypal/ko-fi/etsy/something you can accept money on easy if you want to sell for money. At least have something that has to do with paypal since thags the majority of people who buy adopyts. Good luck and ask if ya need anynmore info! Im excited to see what you have in store!
Hello! Been trading and selling adopts around for over a year and here’s what I have to offer:
Designing
There’s 3 main markets: Humanoids, Anthros and Ferals. Perhaps you want to focus on one, or experiment with multiple. I personally do Humanoids and Ferals, as they are my strong suits in terms of art (but Humanoids are my better in design)
Selling
People sell their adoptables in either auctions or flat sales. All of the auction terms are listed above, but I’ll add another: Snipeguard. It’s an optional feature used to avoid people joining in last minute to snipe the character with a bid ever so slightly the above. However I do disagree with the above as you absolutely do not need a following for an auction, it merely means they won’t get attention as quickly, unlike popular designers. This is because you do not have to take your highest bid if you do not like it. The adopt belongs to you and so does the auction, therefore you are allowed to close it at will if you dislike your offers or change your mind.
Advertisement
Make a thread, post it in your bulletins, post offsite and offer in LF threads. This way, competitively advertising (whilst still following the rules such as hitting the requirements in LF threads) will get you sales faster as it is getting around to more people. If you play on a site with a forum signature, you want to add a lil icon linking to it / advertising it, or just add it t o your TH bio.
Extra
I would add a folder for characters you sell / trade and order / tag them well. Maybe you’ll sort them by species, by their price, or by their availability (only for sale, only for trade, only for art are examples). I tend to dodge folders that are not organised because I am only interested in one specific species (humanoids, but if the first page is littered with Ferals and there are only sprinkles of humanoids in that 6 page folder, don’t expect me to be there). Always think on the customer’s perspective!
