Were your OCs ever compared to another character?

I assume that many of us have stumbled upon this, because getting your OC compared to characters from media is inevitable - but what are your thoughts on this, after all? Do you like it? Do you hate it with a burning passion? Or maybe you just don't mind when it happens?

Personally, I am the type who hates it with a burning passion. It's not a positive thing for me at all (I do know that some people don't mean it the wrong way, but it still pisses me off), as I try to make my OCs as original as I can (and will redesign them if I'm not satisfied with their look). I mean, wouldn't you just lose it if your favourite/comfort OC was compared to the same character 40 times (or even more)? Lmao I don't even feel like I'm gonna recover from this haha as a side effect I have developed a burning hatred for that character, to the point where I shudder whenever I see him

Okay, now it's yall's turn, I wanna hear the epic stories and opinions. I don't know if I'm just crazy or is that common lmao

Blippy Crazilily

blippy is sometimes compared to a Patapon or a Patapon Uberhero because of his pure black coloring and single eye. he's not a patapon oc but i can see the resemblance

personally i'm fine with it. i even gave him uberhero-ish outfits based off of the comparison

Prisma Jade-Everstone

I personally try not get bothered by it, but it's more of a weird-moral thing for me than a "I genuinely don't get bothered by it" thing. It gets annoying, but pattern-recognition's natural afterall so I can't blame people too much for saying "hey this character looks like that one!" (and I'll admit, I've faved & liked characters before just bc they look like my favs so it feels hypocritical if I chastise people for doing it ig)

For one I am bothered by, Prisma sometimes gets compared to ALT from pop'n music, which is warrented tbh she started as a Pop'n fancharacter based off her. But it's kinda annoying because I've long spun her off into an original OC and only being recognized for older fandom stuff has gotten on my nerves a lot lately. (hard to not get peeved when I'm trying to move on to original work yunno?)

05. Vaxir Sadismancer

I don't mind.
Vaxir has been compared to Eren from Attack on Titan for obvious reasons.
I made her almost a decade before I knew of the show so it's a coincidence haha.

mellohi / gop Impastaa

people calling them dream even though i hate that guy x.x

it's just annoying because he didn't create the mask archetype lol

SweetKooky

Meh, hasn't happened to me but I don’t mind all that much. If they’re compared to an official character, it’s like….whatever. Nothing to get mad over imo.

But if they’re compared to another person’s oc and accusing me of stealing then yeah that’s a problem, especially if I never even heard of this character before lol

Mochi

no but i personally wouldnt mind, tbh id be a little flattered honestly! especially if they compared an oc to a favorite character of theirs.

JayBird375

Mine get compared to canon characters all the time and I get it because a lot of them are media inspired from storyline to design. They aren't the most original people in the world so usually I'm fine with the comparison. A part of me hates it though just because I don't like people knowing about my interests.

My usual formula is 2-3 aspects from one canon character, 1-2 aspects of another, + a hefty coat of fur, and then my original setting and backstories. The more I use them, the more their character varies from the inspiration characters and becomes unique.

sleepy

yeah but it doesn't bother me, personally. as long as they're not implying i copied the design or something.

Spirit Woods SpiritX

Yes, my poor sona has been subject to Deku comparison for having green hair. As a joke, thankfully x>!
He had more greeny hair than his now more blueish green.

Jackson Aukerman Zaten

iv'e had a few people compare jack to mao mao before and it hasn't really bothered me. tbh I kinda think it's funny

Pulcella

I'm usually heavily inspired by a lot of media for my OCs, so it's inevitable. I even make jokes about it to myself. So, I don't mind too much. But I'll admit, it does make me worry if my stuff isn't all that original if it does get compared.
