0 Votes Voyage to Rhaevaria
1 Votes Expedition: Rhaevaria
0 Votes The Expedition to Rhaevaria

TL;DR: Help me pick a name or come up with your own. The second paragraph* describes the plot!

'Sup, name-nerds, etymology-enjoyers, moniker-maniacs, debonair-dubbers or epithet-enthusiasts! [Please tell me if this is the wrong place for the thread. Apologies in advance if that's the case.] I take unserious projects far too seriously, and I've completed a novel of mine a while ago and wish to post it online so my friends & fam may enjoy it. I also love making book covers for fun, and I'd need a title to do that! The catch! I'm stupid bad at naming stuff!

*The story has no clear protagonist, and concerns my ramblings of a cursed kingdom or something along those lines ("who knows?" is a plot point), having vanished centuries ago, and replaced by a massive, dangerous desert. The nation was known as Rhaevaria, and all the Rhaevarians/citizens of the country disappeared with it. I have my reasons for the name Rhaevaria—it may not be the best, but my bad naming skills have been established. The bulk of it is adventures / action in sandstorms or underground. Genre is fantasy-adventure / lost-city (and a BIT of steampunk)! No romance whatsoever, I wrote about sandstorms, swords and magic the whole time.

Going with the eponymous "Rhaevaria" feels weird and repetitive to me—the word's said so often in-universe—but I have bad judgment so help me out. Charles Dickens's Bleak House IS just that...and plain old "Rhaevaria" was suggested to me, so I am dubiously considering it. I came up with the rest on the fly to give you guys a general idea of the plot, and got one suggestion from discord
I'd love unrelated suggestions, too—I'm not looking for a title with the "style" of the titles seen in the poll, I'm just trying to name it based on what its about, and informing y'all of the premise...So yeah, totally new ideas would be cool, and I don't mind private messages/DMs.

This is cringe so I'll delete later lol, but I seek advice for now.
Oh, and I asked for help in a TH-related discord server if anyone finds this familiar. I got one vote for option 3 there, and the suggestion of Sovereign in the Sands.

I forgot to mention that replies regarding why you chose something (or, alternatively, why you think an option might be trash and should absolutely not be chosen) would be much appreciated. Opinions in general. Also, thanks to anyone who's voting/voted.

I feel like "A Kingdom Lost to the Sands" intrigues me the most as far as seeing a novel title that I might want to pick up and read.
Journey/adventure titles aren't inherently bad, but they don't set up the question quite like an entire kingdom getting lost would. And it also brings up the question of what "the sands" actually refers to!
So because of that, it has my vote.

Huh, I have no idea how to use this forum and how to reply and whatnot lol. Oh well. I am worried about whether or not that one (among others) is too long and/or pretentious/corny sounding, but those are good points, thanks!

BluLexie

a suggestion i have is using "rhaeveria" as the title then having a sub title which can be any of the others

kinda like how harry potter books all have the title "harry potter" but each book has its own name as well

Looks like Rhaevaria: Lost Kingdom of the Sands, A Kingdom Lost to the Sands and Lost Kingdom of the Sands are the most popular—I feel like I should've included Rhaevaria: a Kingdom Lost to the Sands too, maybe without the 'a' or with a comma instead of a colon. I'm deciding between those now, but I'm worried putting "Rhaevaria" in front (as BluLexie said) would make it too long, but I do like the sound of it. Also because it makes it a bit more distinguishable from everything else with a similar "lost kingdom" title.

fawnfluff

i think long titles are fine! readers can call it rhaevaria for short and the "lost kingdom of the sands" part provides a better idea of exactly what the story js about to those lookong at the book. both parts have thrir purpose. and i agree that adding rhaevaria to tye title makes it more didtinguishable!

Caesura

Thanks for the vote of confidence, fawnfluff ! I don't know how to close polls, but I don't mind it being open anyways. I'm going with Rhaevaria: A Kingdom Lost to the Sands or Rhaevaria: Lost Kingdom of the Sands and the deciding factor will be which fits better on the cover when I get around to making it lol. As they are pretty much the same, and it seems they're the most popular options.

Thanks again to everyone who took the time to vote or write feedback. :)
