Heyoo!!

Inspired by this thread here + a general curiosity and love of brush hoarding, I thought it would be fun to make a thread for sharing brush settings for whatever program you're currently using!

Here are some rules to keep things clear:

(updated 5/14/2021; Paid for resources are now allowed!)

  • It has to be a CUSTOM brush - not any brush that comes with the program, unedited. This means the basic round brush for Photoshop, doesn't count - in the same way the basic Pen brush for SAI doesn't count!
  • Please state in the post what program the brush setting is for!
  • It does not have to be made by you - but if sources are available please do credit the person who made it/them! This includes extra textures if applicable, again, if possible.
  • This is mainly for Clip Studio : If a brush NEEDS the EX version / a special version to work, you are welcome to share but please state that it does!
  • Please DO show an example of the brush in the post! Even just a lil doodle or squiggly lines is totally fine - just give someone what to expect with the brush!

That being said, these are the programs I have in mind (but any recommendations or ones not on the list are fine too! Points link through to the programs page):

Some of the above I'm not 100% sure they support custom brushes, so--whoops?

If you have any questions feel free to ask here or PM me as well! I'll be sharing some of my SAI 2 brushes below as an example 👍

Someone asked for these earlier so I made this !! I mainly use SAI 2, but there are lil guides in the first post about how SAI 1 vs SAI 2 brushes translate over c:

Shrank it down a lil bit to make it fit - to see the settings better view the full image! If anybody needs any of the textures/forms used for the brushes let me know and I can try to make them available for you!

I really like brush
It works in Medibang!

I used it here

You might need to click to picture to enlarge it so you can see the lines better. It'd probably work better with smaller canvases

These are for SAI 2, but may or may not work similarly for SAI 1?

New sketch brush!

And a different "painty" sketch brush/marker!

boft is a soft lineart brush for SAI 2 that could also work for solid sketches!

Aah I'm glad this thread exist! The SAI brush sharing thread is gone so I needed to archive these brushes somewhere

I mainly use SAI1 so here are some brushes I love:

Pencil and Mechanical pencil brush by BerolEagle - The most popular SAI brush on dA, it's really great!

Another pencil brush by ielleja - Looks more realistic and requires no additional texture

Various brushes by Sketcheree - A lot of handy brushes for many purposes. I'm using their Pen 2.0 brush as my brush for sketches! I renamed it to "G-pen" because it reminds me of similar brush in Medibang, haha.

Copic for SAI by LaraYokoshima - I can't confirm on how good it is about replicating copics but if you ever need a brush that have a really nice pen pressure transition and blend, this one is very good (Also available for SAI2)

Various brushes by Yuu San - A lot of lineart specific brushes, the Skritchy brush seems very useful in some shading styles

Edit: Omg OP thanks for the brush setting comparison for SAI1 and SAI2, that was the main reason I couldn't move to SAI2 because the setting is really different lol

This is a really solid lineart brush for SAI 2 - it's good for those who have a hard time with lining, I've found? It's very smooth, very slow, but that can easily be switched by changing the stabilizer strength :>

Grymmjack's ballpoint pen brush for SAI1 is my new brush for sketching and B&W artworks now! While it does work in terms of replicating the ballpoint pen, I personally unchecked the "density" setting and it can create this nice effect that mimics traditional black ink pen as well, few examples with my own works ^^

ROTTENDECOMP

This bleeds into how I do my lineart overall but I made a tweet about this a while back!
But Twitter image compression sucks so under the spoiler is the settings/examples :^) It's basically just a bad chisel brush but considering Medibang doesn't have anything like it it works for me. (Maybe it does now I haven't updated the program in forever oops)

And the .BMPs for Spread, Paper, and Carpet 02 respectively (honestly I have no idea where I got them since it was YEARS ago, but I know they were free!):

Comin' back in here to show off a brush for Clip Studio I found and have been using a lot since I tweaked it!

Original brush is this one: https://assets.clip-studio.com/en-us/detail?id=1712564

I tweaked the settings a bit, under brush settings I changed the particle size to be affected by pen pressure, so the ends of each stroke would be softened :] It looks like this in use!

TBH this thread wouldn't be complete without mentioning the entire

Frenden Clip Studio Brush Pack

It contains like. 800+ brushes with a lot of variety and cool options for all kinds of uses, the whole pack itself is only $15 and I can safely say I use several brushes from the pack in pretty much every completed piece I do in clip studio!

There's too many to show examples of everything here but here's a few of my favorites! :3
