Simply put, what do you consider the main influences in your art and/or writing style?

Are they other Internet artists? Classical painters? Mangakas? YA literature? Feel free to tell in just as much detail as you wish, but remember to put images under spoilers if you're posting particularly large images! This is also a totally welcome thread for both writers and artists, so don't feel intimated!!

Bit-Bit

A big influence for my writing style is actually my best friend, as she goes into so much detail in her work, you could really visualize it no problem.

My art is inspired by a lot of things tbh?? I used to thrive off of Cartoon Network back in the day and I started to draw in the first place because of the Powerpuff Girls. I got into anime for a while after that but when I went back to cartoony stuff, I really wanted to emulate stuff like PPG and Samurai Jack someday.

Online, though, I ended up basing my art style a lot on the work of DSP/Mogeko/Deep-Sea Prisoner! I just liked the simple style of their drawing and I taught myself to draw hands and legs by observing how they drew them on their character portraits. I also really liked the poppy style of the Mystery Skulls music videos (honestly my art probably resembles that the most now haha). As I got more into anime, I also tried basing my style on some of Hiroyuki Imaishi's work, like Panty and Stocking and Space Patrol Luluco.

A lot of VOCALOID videos and songs also influenced my art, like the art of Glider, KEI, cosMo, Manbou no Ane and whoever that guy who writes Chibi Miku-san is (I can't remember right now ^^").

Writing and storytelling-wise (and I know I could get crap for this) I got a lot of influence from Sonic the Hedgehog! I just liked the sort of balance of dark or gritty situations interspersed with cheesiness or humor that some of the games had, and the bright aesthetics of the early games and some of the Blast era ones like Lost World and Unleashed. The Powerpuff Girls also gave me the idea for a villain scale (most evil vs. laughably evil) and the cartoony, wacky way I write things. I could go into more detail but then this post would get really long so I think I'll stop now ^_^"

my art has been influenced by all the tutorials that i've seen over the years. my technique is kinda like a giant amalgamation of smaller techniques that i've seen if that makes sense :^0 i remember this one video i saw a long time ago that's basically responsible for how i mostly render bodies and make construction lines, i wish i could find it lmao. it's kinda good but i should def work on my rendering skills since they kinda just slow me down now. more recently, ap studio has definitely helped me out and i hope that it influences my art more in the future. :^) there's also a whole bunch of artists that i admire!! most of them are from instagram, but there's also a couple here on th too :'^) they all inspire me and sometimes i take little things from their styles and integrate them into mine (ex. lace.mi on insta + the way she does eyebrows lol). i'm also definitely inspired by anime/manga (bnha and tokyo ghoul i guess) and western animation (i've used elements of style from steven universe and mlp:fim)

as for my writing.. honestly idk??? lmao it's kinda the same thing w/ my art; it's all the tutorials/advice i've seen mixed w/ stuff i learned from school?? i'm not the most experienced writer in the world :0

Art influencers:

I grew up on cartoons.  Hana Barbera, Chuck Jones, Tex Avery, all the old Nicktoons, early Cartoon Network stuff, Disney and Don Bluth, etc.  Also a ton of illustrated books.  I always loved looking at the artwork in those.  I did go through an anime phase, and I don't doubt some of that influence stuck around, too.  Also posters, t-shirts, and CD covers, mostly rock music related.  There were lots of those around and I loved looking at them, too.

I'd say the two biggest influences in my current drawing style would have to be Disney-related stuff and Steven Universe. There's probably a bit of MLP influence floating around in there as well, particularly in smaller details (I used to be a mainly MLP artist, but in the past two years or so I've moved over to my current stuff).

Also, when it comes to story building/character development/writing, YA books definitely played a big part in my current style.

SU and //shudders hetalia were my big influences at one point,, ive kept some aspects of the former's art style but not as much anymore uvu

nowadays i really dont think abt my art inspo,, i usually go through phases where i follow an artist and their work (like hyperfixiations, but not like being stalker-y or anythhing fjsdkgj) and eventually just accidentally pick up on smth from them (ie posing/shading/etc),,, or just go on pinterest n look up art tutorials hA-

i really love watching drawfee for character design inspiration though, they're so creative and goofy on that show!

My biggest inspiration was the Rooster Teeth animated show, Camp Camp. I really wanted a simplistic art style, but still had details where it counted, and I found this show had something similar to what I was looking for.

I started noticing little things, like how even with a lineless style they used shading to show differences between body parts of the same color. I loved this and started using it in my work. By doing this, I've also been able to force myself out of my comfort zone more and I've been drawing more frequently than I used to.
