Simply put, what do you consider the main influences in your art and/or writing style?

Are they other Internet artists? Classical painters? Mangakas? YA literature? Feel free to tell in just as much detail as you wish, but remember to put images under spoilers if you're posting particularly large images! This is also a totally welcome thread for both writers and artists, so don't feel intimated!!

Not sure about the writing side of things, since that's a lot harder to track, but my art has historically taken a huge influence from Hiroshi Kajiyama's work on the Golden Sun series, and my design sensibilities take a lot from both that series and the GBA-through-DS Fire Emblems (mostly Sacred Stones and Path of Radiance, though). More recently, it's again harder to track; I consume a lot more art from different artists so it's harder to say what came from any given artist.

Not very sure whether they really influence me or not, but I deeply admire and follows these mangaka/illustrators: toboso yana, mochizuki jun, tsukiji nao, yukihiro utako, suzunosuke, and kinako. There are more but these are the "top priority" list

Artists mostly make me try out new mediums, like animation, painting and sculpture. It's really rare that I pick a certain type of artstyle because of them.

More generally, Maliki has inspired me since I began to read his comics - 8-9 - even if I lost quite track lately. Hitoshi Tomizawa has a huge influence on me, notably with his works Milk Closet and Alien 9, especially with my art style.

As of writing style, it's more on the book I'm reading at the moment - but romantic authors are a big like of me, so I will say they are a big inspiration. I tend to write based on songs lyrics, does it count ? ^_^"

My art has changed styles so much over my time making it that I'm not really sure what all influenced it. I think it's been a combo of the cartoony Nintendo games I grew up with (Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Mario, etc.) and just general cartoon/cute styles I've seen online over the years.

As for my writing style, while it's seen on only a few of my characters bios on TH, I distinctly recall The Underneath by Kathi Appelt influencing my style A LOT. I am not a reader at all but I freaking LOVED that book and the unique, fragmented, poetic style it was written in. So a lot of my writing since I read it has taken on that same sort of broken and chaotic but poetic style. ;w;

Sorry that was kinda rambly but uhh that book deserves more love. It's been over 5 years since I read it and it still influences me. :'o

Art - hoo boy. I used to be into the homogenous Disney storyboarder/character designer/whatever style, but now I'm a huge sucker for lowbrow and skate art (as well as some early 2000s cartoons, e.g. Dexter's Lab). Some artists I can confidently list as my inspirations are Jimbo Phillips, Angry-Baby (they're a user on here!), and Donya Todd. I feel that there's a lot of things that unconsciously influence me, though, depending on my environment and the people I interact with.

Writing - there is a LOT. To cut a long, rambling rant short, I'm mostly influenced by New Wave speculative fiction (PKD and Harlan Ellison specifically) and beat/L=A=N=G=U=A=G=E poetry.

Mostly my best friend SpiceTwinklePop on DA. She has motivated me and been there since the beginning. I would never be where i am without her, i honestly would have quit by now without her. I owe everything to her.

My mom is another one, I wouldn’t have been as interested in art as a kid if I wasn’t around my artistic mom, who always bought my art supplies and encouraged me to keep going.

Other artists have inspired my on and off. Right now I am particularly inspired by Charmsey, Plushpon, Manny_oe, The creators of the undeveloped Garden Story Game, RabbitFears0, Nbekkaliev, and Cyancapsule. I have a lot of inspirations, I do not like limiting myself. They are all fantastic artists as well as kind souls from what i’ve seen.

When I first started drawing, I was influenced by Pokemon and TLoS. Especially the eyes; they looked exactly like Pokemon eyes (Very geometric). When I started drawing people, my style was influenced by Persona kinda? My humanoid style kinda changed a lot, and I'm still kinda shaky with drawing them.

My writing style is a gosh darn mess, and I should probably get back into reading novels, but once again, TLoS encouraged me to start writing. Lots of the concepts in my world, Inanem, were directly inspired by the trilogy.

Currently, I have a few inspirations from DA, Twitter, etc. but they don't really affect my style. I adore the works of Zagiir, AngelKIte, OstinLein and Koyorin to name a few SFW artists.

The first thing I think of is My Little Pony, Eddsworld and Sonic. For MLP it was mostly eyes (BIG EYES!) since I stopped drawing ponies a long time ago. Eddsworld shrunk the pupils and also added necks, Sonic changed the limbs I think, long, straight limbs. Wish I continued drawing more Sonic-y hands, instead I have tiny, weird hands

My writing style is and always has been "write and see what happens", there aren't really many major influences, and if there are I don't write enough to notice any changes-

Coming back to add Scott Westerfield’s been an influence to my writing recently.

I found Scott Westerfield’s Leviathan series which is great and he’s gotten me thinking more about a lot about show not tell. It’s something I’ve always tried to pay attention to but now I’m more actively looking for ways to employ it when needed. I've seen my writing improve for it, it’s def carrying more emotional weight and feeling less flat that’s for sure. His writing is so lively and detailed yet has the blunt to the point feel I’m looking for in my own work I can’t help but take influence from it. Particularly this article has influenced me a lot. I keep going back over my works and thinking of how I could add to it and fill out details, how to communicate a character’s personality as well as state of mind in a scene.

Idk, its mostly chinese artists that inspire me to draw like what I draw :) I really love Baxian, JiujiFG, Nebula-416 and a ton of other chinese artists like Merasgar and such. I really love the smoothness but the texture of their style. Right now I look up to JiujiFG more than anything and I think he is such a great CG artist.
