Best places to open up an art blog?

Posted 5 years, 4 months ago by LuckAtlas

Hey guys! For a while I’ve never felt like I’d be in a good place to open up an art blog, mostly because of my limited access to scanners, or a decent place to photograph any traditional art of mine, and now that I’m starting to get a grip on digital art I’m seriously starting to consider opening an art blog up - and then tumblr went off the deep end. I’ve been talking to some of my friends, and I’m not too sure where to go to get a start since tumblr was kind of my plan beforehand. Where are some places you might recommend?

I dunno how it's going to turn out in the long run but I just mirrored my tumblr blog to wordpress. The theme I'm using makes it super easy to organize commissions and portfolio/projects and still allows standard blog posts. Other people are moving to pillofort.io which is basically new tumblr but you need a $5 code to join. They're in the early stages of production so I wouldn't keep my hopes up for how great joining is. If you want to go the complete opposite direction, an old reliable is dreamwidth; they've been around a very long time and are an open-source livejournal.

If you don't care so much about the blog aspects, there's deviantart as portfolio and amazing organization in a huge as heck site, mastodon or twitter for microblogging and zero organization, and instagram which is (imho) an absolute pain to post on if you're on anything that isn't a mobile device.

You can always try more than one! Whatever you do, I wish you the best of luck!

Thanks! I've been hearing a lot of people a lil scared of moving into Pillofort, and as a bit of a rushed decision I went and made myself a deviantart account a few days ago. But, I'll keep looking around and definitely check the options you gave! I'm giving myself time till the start of 2019 to start a blog: to both look at my options, and also practice enough till I'm confident with digital art. Thanks again ^^
