I always have done the first rough sketch in red then the slightly more refined one in blue. Both are very bright shades, I just bring down the transparency on the red when I start sketching over it.
Pretty simple question. What colour do you sketch with and why? This is assuming you're going to line the sketch and not use it as lineart
I use to sketch in red but a friend of mine is colour blind, so they see red as yellow. After they told me that I started to sketch in light blue, and I've been doing that ever since
depending on my mood & confidence, i either sketch in cyan or grey! sometimes in black and i lower the opacity after :O and i also do the thing where i use different colors depending on the complexity of the sketch
I almost exclusively sketch in purple on a grey canvas. For some reason the combo is just suuuper pleasing to my eyes. Occasionally I'll add layers in other colours for clothes and hair, etc, just so I don't get confused, but I'll still generally shift those to the same shade of purple after some cleanup. Example under the cut:
I typically sketch in the characters eye color, especially if I'm doing huge group shots. If characters have similar or the same colored eyes I use colors that I think fits them so most of the time my sketches can range from any color from black to red, red to blue, blue to green, and green to orange.
Makes it just easier to have a feel for the char for me and be able to make a sense of my sketches lmao
Flat black. When I need to do the actual sketch or lineart, I lower the opacity and sketch on a new layer.
