Talk About Newer Art Websites

Posted 4 years, 2 months ago (Edited 4 years, 2 months ago) by -Alex-

Basically, got any newer art websites that you've either heard of or use and wanna spread the word? Here's your place/chance. I wanna hear about what new sites popped up. They're fun to check out. (Plus they might be good places to move to in case something happens with one site I'm using. And I need a backup place for my characters in case something happens here and any of the alternatives to TH aren't what I'm looking for)

And by art, I mean like art gallery sites (like DeviantArt and FurAfinity), character storage sites (like this site, Toyhouse), adoptables websites (I don't have any examples except the one I brought up), and anything else that falls into this. (Even just sites that are to store other kinds of art forms, like music and crafts, can also go here if you want to. They do count as art) And perhaps sites like Tumblr, Twitter, and Pillowfort can fit here too. Why not? They're popular places to put art too. I just wanna hear about cool places.

You can also talk about sites that aren't even out yet. Like ones in development. It could help build hype and such for it. :0

Edit: Oh, you can also talk about smaller art sites too. But I like finding new sites to check out. Like, brand new ones. But feel free to talk about those too.

The two I wanna talk about:

Artrise is one I came across one day and I've been watching the progress for years now. I'm very excited for it. It would be nice to have a similar feature to the blogs on Tumblr but mooshed together with DeviantArt. (I used to use DA all the time before I got overwhelmed with clearing out my notifs lol. And I just couldn't get into Tumblr but I loved the side-blog feature)

Here's the site. I'd recommend joining the Discord server too since there are updates there.

Then there's Adopt Oasis. I've been trying to sell adopts there to earn some money on the side but there are not many people who wanna buy adopts (it's nice to just color in a base and throw it onto the site without needing to spend twenty minutes adding them to groups on DA). Which is understandable lol. Plus it just has a ton of promise. :0 So feel free to check it out.

I can send invites. Just pm me (though, it requires me to know your email so keep that in mind). It looks quite good so far.

I've been using waterfall.social this past month and I love it! I've actually gotten more attention on my art there than anywhere else, despite it's small userbase. It's just like tumblr but with more emphasis on art and supporting artists (and also a much better community than tumblr lol)

Some features include a featured art section to help people get noticed, a commission marketplace, and plans for an anti-art theft system! (specific details about art posts here). They also allow nsfw content as long as it's tagged and legal, and they do a lot to make sure minors don't have access to that content

unfortunately they don't have a gallery feature, so I'm still waiting for artrise for all my gallery needs

There's a site that's technically 15 years old but most people have not heard of - Behance.net is something that I personally use, following the claim of a schoolmate that this is where all the artists who "want to be taken seriously" make their portfolios (apparently dA is seen as cheapening professional credibility). It's owned by Adobe I really like the layout and the ability to upload "projects" rather than just deviations (the difference being that a project can be comprised of multiple images - such as a series of paintings or a comic). Now that said, it's more of a digital design portfolio website than an art "community". The community that there is seems to be made up of professional designers and artists, and though the site offers networking abilities and job offers I've been too scared to take advantage of the given chances.

unfortunately Instagram is my only platform that's gained traction (stinky algorithm I gotta deal with)- artfol is super small of a userbase so ur lucky to get 5 likes there if any. I mostly use toyhouse for the forums, storage, and I created a world for an open species I help my friend run, so I'm looking for alternatives with a decent userbase, no rampant art theft, and not a crap ton of twitter drama type stuff

Honestly, I'm pretty nihilistic about new art sites after what happened with Buzzly. Having a portfolio online for recruiters is totally doable with how many site building services there are, but having an art site that doubles as social media feels like a different era, to me at least.

Although, I will say I have been preferring Tumblr over Twitter at least because it's less fast paced plus it doesn't kill animated gifs.

Artrise is now a porno scam ad sadly.

I just use Instagram to build an audience and my website for a professional portfolio. I have Inkblot, but haven't used it because of the bugs yet, though I'd love to get into that and DA again, cause I really don't have my art posted anywhere but a google drive lmao
