I hate using the term "curing." It's more like training to visualize hh-

So, I thought it would be a good idea to ask TH this since I think I saw someone bring up that they have had luck with gaining visualization or something?

If anyone has tried "curing" aphantasia, wanna talk about it here? Like got any tips or advice for someone? Any techniques/stuff like that to try out? All I really got is image streaming.

Oh, and for those who don't know what I'm talking about, it's basically where your mind's eye is blind and you can't visualize. Here's a quick test:

If I'm right, 1 means total aphantasia. I think I'm somewhere between 1 and 2; I see uncontrollable flashes of light or light/white that moves around; I can't see a star or control these lights.

It's best you do research on this instead of relying on me, someone with a piss poor memory, to explain everything to you. But I got you the basics of what aphantasia is.

-Alex- sorry, I wasn't really trying to promote it as a cure or anything or say there was any evidence that it would do anything. I just thought (wrongly) that if I practiced visualizing (anything really, I just have anxiety so "safe place" visualization appealed to me personally) every day maybe it would become better like how you practice any skill. Again, it didn't work so I don't think it's a good idea. It just reminded me of how I tried that.

You don't have to be- I think I wanted to see if something related to that was something else people tried or something? I now forgot why I tried searching other than maybe finding more leads or something. My memory is horrible.

there was a time that i wanted to better my visualization. i've read and heard about some articles such as the one on op's post. i dont have aphantasia, actually i can imagine visuals quite nicely, i just wanted to "see stuff as if they were real" like those VR stickers of smartphones.

i advanced a lot on my visualizations, starting by imaging characters, not only visually but tactile, scent and temperature as well. solidifies a lot of concepts. however, if you do want "absurdly real stuff like VR 3d stickers on photos"....

if that's whats you are after, thats too much. i talked about it with my doctors, etc... thats not... viable. it's possible for our mind, yes, hallucinations do exist, and nothing is actually real. but for us to be awake and perceiving stuff is already too much, wanting to magically virtually render real stuff on vision is very daunting, and i particularly dont think its worth it. it's like wanting to have an offboard videocard brain or something.  (however i do believe yes it is completely possible.)

as for normal visualization, since i can do it, i dont know how real aphantasia is - but trust me, stuff is on your mind and is invisible at the same time. its not like a beautiful vivid dream... i am saying that because thats what i was after and i threw away too much of my mental health after it!

on the other side of the coin, i might suggest going into lucid dreaming, which is totally trainable, gives incredible visual results, and even though it is unpredictable, for me it is very worth it.

I have really good visualization, and at first I didn't understand that other people couldn't do it. I'd explain it by pointing to someone and saying "Im putting a pink mustache on them" and I could totally see it, with the pink, and all that. It's just somethign I don't think about. It's not something I trained myself to do, but damn. This shit is SO intresting.
