Net Neutrality- BIG UPDATE

Posted 6 years, 4 months ago (Edited 4 years, 11 months ago) by Ollieosa

Okay, we've heard the news about Net Neutrality being saved, for now. It's only passed the senate, it still has to go through the House. However this could be a long issue, so we're not in immediate danger yet. It's crunch time to call those reps who voted against or are undecided, Fight For the Net and Battle For the Net, ACLU, are all good sites to visit to get info on how to do so and who to contact! All dems voted to save it, only 3 reps voted to save it...and since NetNeutrality got so much attention they're going to make it an official election issue to hold to prospective congressmen. If you'll be old enough to vote by November, make sure you're registered and VOTE OUT THOSE REPS. This will be an issue that keeps coming back to haunt us for who knows how long, but it's good to know the majority of these people seem to be against it.

Never give up!

I've put older news under spoilers, there's still some helpful links and info in those if you wish to take a gander

Boom https://twitter.com/fightfortheftr/status/988423135522369537?s=21

**Y’all I can’t find anything that says it’s done with yet, so unless someone has a solid, true link to proof then there’s still a chance. I’m only on mobile but google only gave me old news except [this] and that’s what all the recent (within a day) that I’m seeing so there’s still hope lmao, idk how reliable that source is but all other recent sources I’m seeing say basically the same thing, so calm down a little and keep spreading/calling/tweeting reps whatever

Also damn I wish I could format text on mobile lol

Please check Battleground for more quick updates, I'm quite busy irl and can't always go digging. Basically please just keep calling your senators, BG will tell you who in our state hasn't decided and you can call/message whatever them. We have until the 23rd.

Okay guys, don’t freak out too much, event though the FCC has ruled in favor of repealing NN, the fight isn’t over, we have 60 days:

THIS REDDIT THREAD

explains what we do now. Basically nothing can happen until congress approves and it goes through court. Now the court as far as I know is in favor mostly of defending NN and the FCC has been proven to falsify pro-repealing counts. Call/email congress about defending/reviewing/turning over the descision. The fight isn’t over and there’s plenty of a in place ready to go to help keep it that way. Either way nothing will change for a good long while

Visit Battleforthenet again and this time it’ll help with contacting congress

Live out of America? Want to help spread the word on what to do now, click here.

My friend compiled that lovely post and allowed me to use it here

And here's a way to see the progress of a bill in the process for keeping it permanently courtesy of heaven

Previous NN info in the toggle below

I haven't seen a post dedicated to actually helping in STOPPING this from passing so here we go:

WHAT'S GOING ON:

THE FCC PLANS TO OVERTURN NET NEUTRALITY COME DECEMBER 14TH IF THEY GET THE VOTES.

THE USA IS ONCE AGAIN A GIANT SACK OF TURDS

Basically, you would pay for websites the way you pay for your cable tv/apps. I know I certainly can't afford all that, and odds are many of you would be in the same  situation. Those overseas will feel the shock waves of this succeeding  as well. And you can say goodbye to smaller companies (like Discord,  KickStarter, Patreon etc) So, people who use KS and Patreon to pay the  bills? You can likely say good-bye to that option. I'm guessing this mostly affects America based companies, but it would still affect people all over as they use those websites too.

What can you do?

VISIT THIS SITE AND CALL ALL OF YOUR REPRESENTATIVES AND YOUR SENATOR. FOLLOW THE PROMPT IN THIS COMMENT, BUT PLEASE REWORD IT SLIGHTLY SO THAT IT IS UNIQUE IF YOU WISH.

IF YOU ABSOLUTELY CAN'T TALK ON THE PHONE THERE IS A TEXTING OPTION THIS SHOULD HELP WITH HOW TO DO THAT (I use the text option lol)

The number: 50409

HERE'S ANOTHER OPTION

AND ANOTHER

I've seen and experienced, slow reaction times from the texting option, that means their lines and faxes are FLOODING, which is a good  thing! Also you can call/text EVERY DAY! The phone call part shouldn't  even be a huge issue, you will likely get a machine and you simply leave  your message, and if you get a rep or a robot simply say the same things from the promp or however you wanna word it.

large ISPs are going to try to package up your internet into bundles you'd have to pay for, per month. Get the social package with twitter, facebook, etc for 5.99 a month. Get the youtube package for 9.99 a month- so on and so forth.

but here's where it gets worse

These big companies, now able to do whatever they want- can now restrict information.

Your news could look like brietbart, fox n friends, etc if you're with a certain carrier. Same thing on the opposite side, could look like the left and the left only.

Sorry if that's a lot of info, and not meaning to scare anyone but it's kind of important???

If this breaks the site rules in any way, feel free to get rid of this thread but I thought it was important. The Battlefront website should have the most information if you need. I know we're all tired of dealing with this issue, but it's scarier now than ever.

A lot of this info was thanks to my friend, and our discussions. So, I borrowed most of their words.

Thanks to ElithianFox here is another bit of info in case this does pass. Don't let the first paragraph scare you too much though, a lot of any of this info could be blown out of proportion and I wouldn't hold it above some sites to say things are/aren't going well. The best and most we can do is spead the word, call/write/text the senators and any other action that can be taken. Senators HAVE to BY LAW, listen to and read every "yes" and "no" comments they recieve and keep a tally, so imagine how they feel with thier voicemails full, emails backlogged and fax machines jammed, you can bet they aren't having a good day. So, keep calling and anything you can do, every day if need be.

*EDIT* If you live overseas, as far as I know you can't do much except spread the word, urge your US friends, and if you can, donate to the ACLU or the ResistBot (text option provider)

**EDIT** Check out Alex Hirsch's twitter here

Go ahead and email those 3 too!

Ajit Pai -  [email protected]

Michael O'Rielly - [email protected]

Brendan Carr - [email protected]

****EDIT****

I’ve been seeing some new info, I’m unsure how reliable it is but it’s saying they’re ignoring emails/messages that sound scripted, so I encourage ya’ll if you call and email to use your own words. A template is still fine for inspiration just use mostly your own words. You don’t have to be eloquent. You know why you and everyone else needs  net neutrality, so tell them so with your own words.

Another I heard over, was that they’re blocking bots like resistbot texting- so perhaps try sticking to email and phone calls. (I’ve switched to emailing)

So there’s a lot going on it seems, again I don’t know how true much of these are but that’s what I got. It wouldn’t hurt to use your own words anyways.

******************Net Neutrality News!!! Congress Has officially introduced a Bill that is  literally just for Saving Net Neutrality. See this link.multimuu.tumblr.com/post/168372429… Reasons for spreading this:

1. Contact your Reps and tell them to support it

2. SPREAD THIS AROUND! December 14th is it Hurry*******************

Original tweet

Also, I've heard that even if the FCC gets their way, they still have to go through a court hearing for approval it where Ajit Pai will have to provide good reasons for this decision, which aren't very good and the court could easily see that his reasons are just asinine

Ollieosa

@remivalism Of course! The texting bot sends the text you offer it to their fax machines which well sends them a fax, and by law they have to read them I belive [thumbs up]

Don't be afraid to give it your info it asks for, it's so it can find your representatives and such

Ollieosa

@remivalism It's probably overloaded, I had the same issue, it texted me back after about 10 minutes or so :,> just wait n keep trying

Ollieosa

Nonstop Ye, I saw that! but I figured a site-wide post would catch more attention [thumbs up]

Caine

Is there anything overseas people can do? Aside from like forwarding the PSAs?

Ollieosa

Caine I believe you can, I will update the post as I find out info on how, unless someone knows off the bat :0

Nonstop OH WOOPS THANKS

aska-ray

FCC again??

pls stop tryin to do this. just leave net neutrality alone

Ollieosa

AscheRune I keep seeing it more and more so I thought, yeah I'm gonna get on this.

aska-ray Big money don't wanna

ElithianFox

I'd like to add this resource, in case things go south! It details how, should Net Neutrality die, you can still fight for it by waging corporate warfare rather than political. There are ways to fight it, even if it will take a lot of people who stay strong in their rights. However, don't let the opening paragraph discourage you from calling and texting. Put some heat to their shins.

Ollieosa

ElithianFox I’ll add that above from you when I get home

Good to know more options!
