Most commissions are ridiculously overpriced and when they are it's annoying that the artists complain no one is commissioning them, in no sane world would i ever pay $100 for a head shot that isn't even semi-realistic like I'm sorry everyone's art is amazing in their own way but on a middle or lower class budget that's insane. It happens even with extremely messy doodles, I've seen some listed for $50! there are times where the artist even said its mostly a semi-character looking scribble and price it soooooo high but complain when no one wants to buy them! It's annoying in general when people complain about things they can change but this one in particular stands out in the art community

ArtisticQueenRaven Oof :’) I understand that. It’s also hard because when it’s your full time job, the rates per hour are going to be pretty high because you’re a graduated and experienced professional. It’s hard to price your art sometimes, especially if you don’t feel great about yourself or the opposite. If I see stuff like that that’s overpriced, I usually just skip it over. If there’s anything that I’ve learned from doing commissions though, it’s that you are almost always going to get underpaid for the time you spend on an artwork. On average, I think I’ve gotten like 3$ an hour?? Or something close to that but I don’t mind because I’m still practicing and learning *shrug*

There are people who own coin collections worth $1000s of dollars but they dont spend a single one of them. There are people who collect trading cards just to seal them away in plastic and put them on display.
And why wouldn't somebody want something from a particular person? Nothing wrong with only accepting designs from a particular designer!! Hating on those people is like somebody having a favorite chef, but you get mad at them for not wanting to eat others food. Nothing wrong with liking popular stuff ;)
People like pretty things, and alot of times they're specific about who and where they want to get those pretty things from!
If you're salty about somebody having a design that u wanted, maybe ask them for it? its better to try and make a trade instead of sitting in the corner saying "x doesn't even use that character!11!1!!". if they say no to your offer, then move on, its just a design!!
edit: also not every character or species has to be some fleshed out, lore driven masterpiece. Sometimes people make designs,, to just look appealing. No crime in having a nameless undeveloped character/species
yeah i agree on the ocs dont have to have stories
for my designs, i mostly make them so i have a character with that look/appearance
only a very small amount of my ocs have stories

my characters all have little stories in my head ,, I just don't always feel motivated enough to type them out. + u can t know why someone buys only one designer and never "uses them" unless u ask. assuming doesn't help anyone <3
I think buying a design just to use as buying/trading fodder is very...iffy at the least. I mean, it’s your right to do so, but it just makes me confused like, why’d you buy it unless you’s gonna actually draw/think/write ‘bout them? That’s just a waste of money imo.

strawberries-n-cream Big mood on the having the stories, but not the motivation. Lately the only thing I've had motivation to do for my ocs is create profile codes, which is something I guess, but I won't be filling them out in any detail anytime soon.
There isn't really any big difference between Coke or Pepsi. They're both good.
Agree with comments regarding lacking motivation to write; for me it’s a different kind of energy I don’t always have, I’ve really gotta be in the right mood to sit down to write a fic. It’s kind of like how I don’t always have energy to reply to a message. Idk if that makes sense or not tho.
You realize there was no hate in my opinion, right? I'm just not used to this concept in character creation. It never occurred to me to create or buy/trade characters simply for collecting like Pokemon cards. I don't collect anything that I don't personally use or play with. Yes, I do collect a type of thing or two, but I still use them for their intended purpose. I collected trading card game cards back in the day and I played with every "good" card. They didn't just go in a binder to be stared at.
Now that I understand that collecting and trading characters is a "thing" and it makes people happy, then I'm happy people have found something they can harmlessly enjoy and share with others. It's actually quite beautiful when you look at it that way.
Just because someone doesn't understand something doesn't make them a hater, and if someone takes the time to politely explain how the thing works, then the person who doesn't understand can be educated on the thing and either become an ally or join in that thing as well.
