I finally have the chance to watch Lancaster Skies again and one thing I've immediately noticed in the opening sequence that as well done as it is is how tough it is telling who's who in some of the close-ups in the Lancaster. As soon as the characters have all that flight gear on it obscures a lot of identifying features if there's no indicator of what their position is in the aircraft visible in the background I sometimes find it difficult trying to differentiate who's who.
That's something I'm gonna have to be careful with when I start drawing more for the Lancaster portion of my WW2 story, especially if I end up doing short comic sequences from missions like I have planned. I'm not looking to do a long-running comic I don't have all the technical skills needed (backgrounds/composition being the main issues), I don't really have the time for a comic either but there's def odd scenes that would just work better visually or would be easier to translate to comic form than written form so I'd at least like to do 1-3 page sequences.
It's interesting that I've only noticed this since watching a film about a Lancaster crew when I've watched other RAF fighter pilot movies and haven't had a problem identifying certain characters in the flight sequences.
Edit so I don’t double post: I’ve also been lowkey looking at flying lessons again, I‘ve half jokingly said in the past it’s highly likely I’ll get a pilot’s licence before I get a driving licence and that may well end up being the case, flying lessons are affordable for me and most local flying clubs here have their own aircraft you can rent once you’re at a certain level which rn is more doable on my current wages. Where as with a car my issue is after I pass the test (assuming I pass first go) I’ve then got to find the money to buy a car, then I’ve got to keep on top of fuel, insurance, road tax etc and it’s those costs of actually running a car I’m not gonna be able to cover on my current wages. I know which I’d rather do, as much of a pain as having to rely on public transport is it’s not as much of an issue or as urgent (especially now I have a job in the sector I want a career in) with me working out of the country for long periods. Half the issue in the past is I didn’t think to look into the merchant navy sooner and 90% of the jobs I was finding on land require you to have a car.
