You know how people say that the "donut steel mah OC!!!!!" content warnings are pointless?
A dark internal voice is telling me to add a global content warning urging people to steal my art and OCs. Just to see what would happen if I did.
It's so wrong and such a bad idea (I mean what do I expect would happen?) but also a little bit tempting, like that feeling of wanting to touch the bench with the "FRESH PAINT" sign.
my singing voice may not be the best but boy theres a lot of it. i am loud & can flex on my music classmates by holding a high note for like 10secs at the end of a song but i think i injured my astral being from doing this today so thats hubris & im suffering 4 it
Nothing what I consider NSFW but sensitive material so I put under spoiler tag.
So I was strolling about outside today when I witnessed a little girl and her dad walking two dogs - one of them a pekingese, the other a pomeranian, just jogging along tongues out and fur dragging on the grass.
And as I looked at them I had a setting idea, which I'm sure lots of other people have come upon already.
But basically a setting where humans have been selectively bred for thousands of years, by some higher entity or alien race. Bred into various looks, temperaments and shapes for various purposes, kept as a mix between a pet and a servant. Until their look and behavior is as similar to "us" as a pomeranian is similar to a wolf.
And...and I think it's a super fascinating idea? Really disturbing but fascinating. Like, imagine the kind of THINGS that would come about if a race with completely alien aesthetics started messing about with humans. You could look into how much making various "breeds" of humans would or wouldn't affect temperament and skillsets, dwelve into the darker sides of such things (such as genetic mutations that are considered "cute" but make the owners life a living hell among other things), maybe see if the pet-humans can still manage without their alien overlords (and if they even want to). But I don't dare do anything with the idea because I'm a 100% sure that people would quietly judge the setting as being the result of some kind of a "slave world" fetish. Or even worse, seeing as many dog breeds are essentially bred to look and act puppy-like throughout their lives which - if a similar goal was kept for "pet humans" - would result in just one of the thousands of ways in which this premise would be incredibly disturbing and uncomfortable to write or read about. I mean, I just think it's an interesting idea to try and figure out how far the human genome could be pushed whilst keeping the species still same.
That said, I wish I could write stories. Because it might actually be quite interesting to have a short story from the point of view of one of these aliens going about its day-to-day life, and let the reader figure out themselves that the "pets" are descended from humans.
Edit: And why should these higher entities be an alien race though? They could just as well be the fae. Maybe that's why the fae mess around with changelings and steal human babies.
My cat got onto the roof today, and while I was getting him down some dude passing buy offered to buy him to "take the trouble off my hands," told me what type of cat he was, and asked what breeder I got him from when I politely turned him down.
I found him in a bush at Walmart for free as a kitten. I had no idea he was a rare type, let alone what type of cat he was. I got a red tailed Siamese for free, when this dude offered me money for my cat.
I'm laughing in between my coughing fits here, Coco the neurotic cat is rare and worth money. Mr. Coco. Plz. Baby. I love you but you will literally jump out a window in a split second for no reason and get stuck on the roof too much. You actively try to suffocate my face in the middle of the night and are the least graceful being I have ever met. I love you Coco but the idea of you being a luxury cat is just astronomically hilarious.
