Im interested in getting a new drawing tablet and Im currently looking at the Wacom Intuos Pro medium in particular.

Im reading that the surface is super rough and it really eats up the pen nubs. I tend to use a medium amount of pressure when i draw and i want to know if that would become an issue. I really interested in your personal opinion on how it draws and responds. Would you recommend it to someone whos been around the drawing tablet block a few times? I've only worked with Wacoms before so Im pretty brand loyal atm. Im currently using a Wacom pen and touch. What would you recommend as an upgrade?

Or do you use a different brand that you highly recommend? i keep seeing Huion tablets are pretty good. but i dont really know a lot about them. Im totally a graphic tablet kind of person. Im not super into the drawing tablets with the screens. But Im up for all kinds of recommendations.

I think the big thing you should look out for is what kind of USB port it has. Every tablet I've ever gotten that has a micro USB port has had that port break on me.

varkarrus All of the tablets im looking at atm are bluetooth. but they all come with USB which i have plenty of on my computer. ive really only had trouble with the cord fraying.

AscheRune well thats good to know. yea ive had trouble with my past wacom cords fraying like crazy.

I have a Pro medium!

So. It DOES eat the pen nubs, I got a few extra when I ordered and I've already changed it twice. BUT I think that is because of 2 things:
1. the surface is rougher than my other Intuos tablets, for texture
2. I press really fuckin hard when I draw

The wear has gone down since I've started not pressing down so hard. And you can order other surfaces for your tablet! I got a bunch of samples when I bought mine.

I've CURRENTLY had no problems with my usb cord especially since I've stepped ON IT TWICE WHEN IT WAS PLUGGED IN; nearly gave myself a heart attack, but it's still fine, no shorts or anything.

The one I have though uses not microUSB but some other uh. Thing. Not sure. This is the one I have. It was 100% worth it, upgrade from my Intuos4.

aska-ray are we talking like rougher then normal paper texture? have you had a problem with it reacting to your hand? im def looking into this one rn.

@citriina hmm yea most of the reviews seem overwhelmingly positive so ill keep monoprice in mind. my current tablets like 3-4 years old. and the one im eyeballing is around 300$

aska-ray

The default skin, I wouldn't call it rougher than paper but it's not 100% smooth like the older models.

Oh wait, lol, that one  you linked is the one I have. I always get tripped up by the model numbers.

With my hand... SOMETIMES... sometimes there are days I keep the touch on and it like, doesn't even notice my hand and then there are others where it'll notice. It'll notice real hard. I usually draw without touch on anyway though so it doesn't really affect me much. (though when im browsing and chillin out i turn it on)

Megaloceros

aska-ray ok so thats fine. all my old tablets dont have a smooth surfaces so i kinda prefer it over the smooth like glass texture. oh rad. have you had any issues with the bluetooth disconnecting?

aska-ray

YES I cant get the bluetooth to work the way I want, haha. I don't have native bluetooth in my desktop so I use a USB adapter and it...doesn't disconnect but it DOES delay and I cannot deal with that at all. I hear some people don't have delays though so??? who knows. I never really get far from my desktop anyway so it's not a huge issue for me but, hey yanno.

I use a Intuos pro small and its my favorite tablet and third and final as i will never leave this model unless i have to, I haven't changed a nib in over month, the surfaces are smoother than a babies bottom compared to that of Huion or Bamboo, they'll also get even more smoother after u use it for awhile. I swap between using wireless and wired but wired is just a lo less work for me personally cause i'm too lazy to charge things. I'd personally suggest getting a small for a Intuos cause honestly its not even that small, and probably cheaper too; I bought this baby like 3-4 years ago for $300 (plus shipping) straight from the Wacom website. I haven't had any problems with the tablet either, I will add that please take care of your pen because the pen with this tablet is VERY pricey being around $80, (had to replace mine after my older brother thought it was a actual pen.) Anyway, thats my suggestion and input, I hope my typing wasn't too messy. Happy tablet shopping!!!

I would totally suggest the Intuos pro tablet. it is astounding and smooth and is definitely a good top line brand. It's a pretty sturdy thing so nibs are easy to replace and scratches aren't going to affect you.

But if you're planning travelling/moving with it a lot I would be very wary, I've had both a large and small and I used it a lot at school, but with having to remove the cord from the tablet multiple times, there is a small wire inside the tablet that breaks easily (which is apparently a very common thing for this product) and is impossible to fix (happened to me twice. within a three month span i was out 600$+ ;;;;).
