So. I suck at designing clothes [for my ocs] lol. [When I draw] I always slap on either a t-shirt or a button down and some pants and that's it XD or better yet: no b o d y XD
I would like some clothing blogs or websites for inspiration~
- I have a preference for male fashion but any kind is fine as well. I say male because the majority of my ocs are xD
- Any style is fine, preferably modern but I don't mind playing around with other styles. If you want you can browse my ocs and see what their styles might be like ;D
- Related to above but plz also rec. 19th cen. style clothing ;; especially if you find for countries for Greece and Russia lol
- Tumblr blogs preferred since I can just follow it, and it can be active or it can not be. But other blogs or websites is fine; I can just bookmark them in a folder lol

I hope I read the correct bio - is the 19th century Russian clothing meant to be for Mylani? I have studied about Russian history and traditional costumes a bit as a hobby and from what you described in his bio, I got an impression that he's not a well-to-do type of rural peasant (correct me if I'm wrong)? From what I have read, most peasants in rural villages during the Russian Empire era (which is what Russia was in the 19th century) normally wore traditional costumes and didn't have much chance to access the typical 'city' clothing seen on citizen of big and prosperous cities like Saint Petersburg or Moscow.
My further question is, how accurate do you want his cloth to be? Traditional costumes tended to vary a lot in styles and the patterns of embroidery depends on geography. For example, the area where today is the border of Russian-Ukraine used this costume (though this one is more specifically worn in wedding), this is from the area near White Sea in the northwest and here is from an area bordering China-Mongolia in Siberia. And not to mention that part of Ukraine, Belarus even the Baltic states like Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania used to belong to Russia in 19th century, too. Do you have a specific location in mind of which part of Russia he lived in?
@Sashka Yes, it is for him, and your impression is pretty much correct. As for location, he would live around where Ukraine would be. Oh, and the time would be around the middle/latter half of the 19th cen. ^^; I would like to get clothing ideas to be pretty accurate; though I suppose I wouldn't mind more general refs as well ;;
http://koreanmodel.tumblr.com / http://tokyo-fashion.tumblr.com these 2 are some of my favs! both are an interesting mix of modern/street fashion, and there's a lot of looks with interesting silhouettes/layering/details to repurpose onto different looks! both feature women and men and the first one does have some artsy nudity just a heads up on that!
The closest I can find that specified which year the picture was taken is this photo. The other sources I normally look for while searching references don't specify the year photos were taken and black and white photos existed well into the 30's-40's of the 20th century in this area. Poltava region is in central Ukraine, to the east of Kyiv. I couldn't see the embroidery on the chests well but I guess the color might be something like this or white, which seems to be a signature style of embroidery in the Poltava region. There is a blog entry about the embroidery of Poltava region, although like I mentioned, lacks the exact dating. By the way, if you feel that the leather boots are too out of place, you could substitute with birch bask shoes, which had been traditional footwear in rural area in both Ukraine and Russia since the 11-12th century. The cord part is tied over a pair of wool socks.
Another one which cited the year the photo was taken is this one from Chernihiv region, though the costumes probably looked a bit too city-ish because the main settlement of this area, Chernihiv, was a rather developed city by the 19th century standard.
