Non-Character "Characters"

I know TH is a character storage site, but there are some "characters" that definitely aren't, for example profile coding templates and masterlist entries. I feel like it would be a good idea to have maybe a box you can uncheck or a drop-down menu in the character select screen for when you're uploading these non-characters? And then maybe they won't turn up in the browse list, and possibly some other limitations idk.

In a different but related vein, some people rp on toyhouse, and some of those rp in fandom worlds. I feel like it'd be convenient to be able to add limited characters, possibly directly and specifically to the world, for when you're rp-ing as a canon character? And also just to add NPCs to the world that you wanna post as but don't want to make an entire new character for, like shopkeepers & etc. And those definitely shouldn't show up on the browse lists. Currently I've been doing this by posting as myself and just adding the character name on top of the post, but it's kinda . . . comparatively untidy :/

So yeah! Character streamlining for the first one, and extra world functionality for the second one!

I like these ideas. Maybe you can also search for non-characters as well? I still like searching for codes and templates using the browsing system so why not have that? Just an idea I got. And an option to search for either or just one would be nice too.

And there's a listed/un-listed feature for characters currently? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that feature is there for when you don't want characters showing up on the browse list or something. I just felt like I needed to point that out oof.

Marking a profile as "Noncharacter" would be very helpful.

Support to both of these ideas, it would improve organization and make things cleaner.

i feel indifferent on the second one, but i fully support the first idea! it would really help organize my characters/ concepts a bit more!

Sadismancer

Agree with the first one! I hate having my character count be +6 cause of coding profiles I have.

I like the first but as someone who makes NPC's into characterse with backstories I don't really see too much of a need for that part, like why not just make a folder of your own for world npcs, they are still technically characters?

That's a possible workaround, but I have a very large world with multiple cities and each could have different NPCs, so that would mean getting too many characters fast. Also, sometimes it would be convenient to have other people to post as them, for example if a group has several moderators and they can all control shopkeeper/event/story NPCs.

Another possible workaround is having a side account just for NPC characters, but for fandom characters (eg. nurse joy in a pokemon RP) that's against the rules so they'd have to be private, and if you have an open group that's just not doable.

216th I mean instead of NPC's some people like having shopkeep/background characters, I know I have a ton, it could be a good part of making the world more inclusive to allow other people in the world to fill NPC roles.

As for the canon NPC/characters it seems like a good idea, BUT(theres always a but I know) there could potentially be some serious risks associated with copyright and related issues if toyhouse is more lenient with their rules on using canon characters/real people/making characters directly affiliated with them("girlfriends/kinning/etc) But if you could find a way around that though it would be neat to see what fandom worlds build.

+1 for both

idk how canon characters would work out (mainly bc having them up is against site rules as of now), but for organization & 'smaller' characters that'd be a major helper
