WYSIWYG editor issues?

Posted 6 years, 5 months ago by ScottySloth

I've noticed that it's pretty painful to move copied text over from somewhere else to post it - the editor seems to grab some of the formatting from copied text but not all of it, or even stuff that's not there (bolding all the text) or adding unnecessary page breaks. Are there any plans to make the editor work a little smoother? I like to be able to move copied over text so that I can keep a template of character information to post on new character profiles, and I was wanting to move over text from somewhere else to post in worlds, but having to undo the mess that copy and pasting does without destroying everything is a nightmare.

I know I've used WYSIWIG editors in other places that handle copy pasting well, and I know there was some mention of it on the to-do list, but I wasn't sure if it was improvements or just a few extra features and wanted to bring up how clunky it is for copy pasted text

Here's some temporary fixes:

If you're copying the text from somewhere on Toyhouse, try copying the source code and pasting that instead of the formatted text.
Otherwise, right-click and hit "Paste without formatting" or "Paste as plain text". You'll have to re-add any existing formatting but that'll get rid of all the weird issues that pop up.

We've never had issues with copy/pasting so we can't be much more help, sorry ^^

I'm moving from a document so I can't copy the source code unfortunately </3
I'll try to do the paste as plain for a temp fix tho!

I've had the issue even when copying and pasting from a stickynote on my computer if you want to see the recreation tho?

ScottySloth Are you copying from a Word document? C/P from Word or other word processors brings with it the styling/formatting from the word processor's side, but sometimes those styling tags don't transfer into WYSIWYG because they follow different formats or the styling tags don't exist in the WYSIWG editor. This isn't really something we can fix as the web-based text editors & word processors will always have their differences. It may be painful, but "pasting as plain text" and reformating within the text editor is probably your best bet.

Sorry for the trouble. : ( If you run into any other annoying WYIWYG bugs please let us know. I think we've nailed most of the Super Annoying Ones, but ah, you can never be too sure.

Even from just stickynotes, the default windows program which doesn't even use formatting, I get it - I know there's always going to be some issues but to get one even when i copy over from somewhere that has no formatting on its own seems like the editor here is forcing formatting where there is none, which is what's causing the problems and one of the bigger reasons I thought I should bring it up
