help pls. pls help. i wanna look at my images w/o my eyes hurting lol

I'd never realised TH has that effect on images! I went and compared the colours of the top (left) with the colours of the bottom (right) and it looks like TH darkens dark colours and lightens light ones, not so much saturating all colours equally. That's pretty strange indeed... I haven't tested if this is an issue that happens with my own pictures though, but I thought showing some differences in colour could help pinpoint the issue!

ElithianFox tbh its only happened in the past like??? few days??? id like to know if its happened to other people too woops

it seems to be a thing w like my general theme too,, i use the night theme and ive def noticed a difference in colour tbh
but ty for doing that ! good to know

hedgemaze

Is it only on one browser/device, or does it happen everywhere? Only Toyhouse and nowhere else?

copiedcity

hedgemaze tried it on firefox on here and it's completely fine, same w on myphone

HEAVENDELUXE

an interesting observation! id like to note that for me the image tends to be lightened as a whole. its annoying when trying to copy-paste a reference for a commission or something from a toyhouse profile only to get incorrect colours. usually its subtle, but ive noticed it often enough for it to be an established thing to anticipate lol. this has been for months also, possibly a year by now since i dont remember when i first noticed and it may have been happening before then.

copiedcity

HEAVENDELUXE hey at least it's not just me lol
ig it might be a problem with chrome, since even if i paste an image from the site and into an editing program it shows the original colours and not the altered ones

HEAVENDELUXE

I use firefox but had the same issue when i was using chrome so...idk!

Pepperly

I can't seem to reproduce this exact problem on my end, even looking at your original images, but i know for certain th bumps up contrast on images that are completely black and white, especially when adding a watermark. That's been going on for as long as I can remember....

I'm not sure if it's related, but I have one picture on TH that looks wrong in Firefox, which is what I normally use. This picture looks bright green and high contrast in FF but teal (like it's supposed to) in Chrome. Other pictures of the character look fine, and I haven't noticed that problem happening with any other pictures so I chalked it up to a browser quirk, but it's very odd.

Screenshot comparison below the cut:

Pepperly oh man ive never seen that happen (but thats prob bc most of my images have colour LOL)

hedgemaze damn that's a big difference?? yeah its probably jsut the browser being funky but still p weird

Pepperly

hedgemaze

...That is definitely happening for Firefox for me. I thought colorspaces on web browsers are supposed to be the same but that is a really intense difference... wow...;;;;;

Edit: idk if you'll see this but PS says this image is in CMYK instead of RGB and that might be the core problem. FF must render CMYK differently.

hedgemaze

Pepperly That would explain a lot! CMYK is probably rarely used for web uploads, which would explain why I haven't seen this problem before. Really interesting.

tayleaf

What an interesting thread. I've never noticed anything like this, but my eyesight isn't the best, plus 90% of my characters are just shades of brown XD
I do know that deviantArt has a few weird quirks like this with colors too, and different screens and browsers too. Its such a strange phenomenon

TH has been darkening images for me (on thumbnails) since I joined, Using both Chrome and Vivaldi, and iOS/Chrome on occasion too @ 3 @
