Rules for account-wide content warnings

Account-wide content warnings are a great feature of this site, but lately I’ve seen many instances of them being misused. People commonly use them to tell others not to steal, copy or trace their work, which is redundant as the rules of the site already forbid art theft. I’ve also seen people use this feature to advertise their sales threads among other things. I think you’ll agree with me that neither of these examples are those of genuine content warnings and that there should be a rule against the misuse of this feature.

It's always interesting to see how some features will be used and how that usage differs from their intended. Generally, I think this suggests that there is a gap in people's usage needs that we aren't meeting and they take a feature and repurposed it to meet that need... In this case, I'm not quite sure how I'd go about addressing the apparent need (more stringent warnings to not steal characters) but I definitely agree that this isn't how warning system should be used especially as several people have pointed out that the misuse dilutes the effectiveness of the system.

If possible, could you submit a ticket with a few of these? Mention that I wanted to see what it looks like. I don't think I have a fix or even an idea of how to address this issue but its definitely something

+1 and I agree with @Waltz and @Sheep. And is my warning problematic? I just thought I should add something you should keep in mind with my ocs in there too along with an actual warning. A notes section thing that's like a content warning but for things you should know about your characters would be nice. Like things to keep in mind before looking at them. (tho I would hate for this to be misused as a "donut steel!!" thing like content warnings. Isn't that common sense??)

definitely a +1. this wasn't even a thing before and I'm not sure who started it, but everyone's sort of getting on it now and it makes it a pain whenever I open multiple tabs and they all have that warning that I didn't really need to read, so I have to click one and refresh all the other tabs just so that I don't have to click on each one.

But yeah I agree with people above me, and I really like Shyads' suggestion too!

+1! I recently saw one where the warning said “not for sale/trade. Do not steal/rp this character-“ then listed all the what not to do with the character since it belonged to them and at the very very end “-Also this character may have violent content with mentions of abuse.” Honestly it is upsetting because the moment I saw the do not steal I skipped it completely..
