[FIXED] ❗: Don't let ppl delete other ppls images!

Hi!  I'm a big fan of the tagging system on toyhouse- I think it's really fun to go through and tag your friends' characters in pictures they're in!  But there's a pretty serious loophole...

If I tag someone's OC in a picture, they are then given editing rights to the image, where they can add their own description, set their own crop, etc...  But they are also allowed to delete the image from my gallery.
All they have to do is go to where the tags are, and delete my OC from the tags, and the image is completely wiped from that OC's gallery..!!

In this picture here, I have tagged a friend's OC, Haruka, and I have the ability to delete Haruka's tag from the image.  Which is innocuous enough, but if I delete the tag, it removes the entire image from her gallery.  And because their OC is tagged here, they have access to this on their side as well, so they are able to delete my OC Haruhi's tag as well, and completely remove the image from her gallery.

This can pave the way for a lot of people to spitefully delete images from someone's gallery without permission should their OC be tagged, or even for someone to mistakenly delete images from their gallery because they don't know that removing the tag removes the image...

If an OC has like 10 images, it should be easy enough to find out which one got deleted and replace it....  But if an OC has a lot of art, it can be a big hassle trying to track down which image was deleted so you can reupload it.

I definitely think that people should be able to delete tags if they aren't involved with the people they're tagging anymore, but they shouldn't be able to delete what's in someone else's gallery when they do so..!

I personally don't mind this feature. Sometimes I don't want my art featured in a character I traded's gallery/I intended to delete it before I traded. I really don't use it to be mean or anything, sometimes I just upload low-quality images I don't want to carry to other accounts </3. I definitely see your concern though, I'm not denying that it's a... dangerous feature. I think if you didn't draw the image, you probably shouldn't be able to remove others' characters from it.

PresidentGlitch I'm a little confused, can you still remove images from a character's gallery after it's been traded? I'm a hoarder, so I've only ever traded one character away and rarely adopt now a days haha, but if it were me, I would love to keep those low-res files anyway..! Pics of OCs are really sentimental to me so every little picture is held dear to me, even if its some ugly little pic someone drew with their eyes closed LOL but that's just differing opinion and i understand where ur coming from ;v;

As far as discerning who can delete by the artist name or not, that could cause problems later especially if the image is linked to an off-site URL (say they would rather be linked to their Twitter where they get more business rather than their toyhouse where they just house characters) ... It would only work if everyone had a toyhouse account they wanted credited ;-;

PresidentGlitch

Well for that last thing I don't really think about it too much, I'd just like to keep my privileges ovo;;

But uh yup! I thought that was what this was about owo;;;; To explain what I mean-

If I draw some lil doodles, then trade the character, I can go into my "Art" tab and delete the character from the image (or maybe go into the other character who's in the images profile). Unless I'm mistaken, but I'm pretty sure I've done it before :'D

As for images I didn't draw I definitely wouldn't do that! How petty do you have to be to remove art from a character that doesn't affect you, man -~-'

But yeah, I totally get the wanting to keep all of the imaged thing, I'm like that too. I'm just not very confident in my art and usually feel like my art will devalue the character or the person may not have wanted the drawing but just uploaded it to be polite.

PresidentGlitch Oh no! This is about tagging character's, but thats kinda scary that you could do that from the art tab too, but like someone mentioned earlier, if an artist got scammed, lied to, etc. and want to remove the image they have more right to... What I was talking about is like... Say there's a picture of your character with mine, and I upload it to my OC's gallery and tag yours in it. That image will show up in your OC's gallery if you so accept it. After it's accepted, you can go into that OC's gallery and edit the picture and remove any OC's tagged that you like-- But if you remove the OC's that are tagged, you delete the image from their gallery. So, even if I uploaded the image, you could effectively delete that image from MY OC's gallery but keep it in yours!

also nooo omg..!! no matter how good or "bad" the art is, I think all art adds value to the character, whether it's monetary value or sentimental value! It just shows u loved the character before they got them!

PresidentGlitch

Yeah thats what I mean :D It's the same thing

I can't recall this happening to me in the past, but I really want it to happen.

grimberriz

+1 i totally agree ;;!

ShopiStar

I remember complaining about the same thing and one of the admins said "it was working as intended", but that they'd keep an eye on it in case there's widespread abuse of it.

0urobous

ShopiStar that's kind of worrying all things considered, especially with all the run-in's people have had where it has been abused just in this thread... i was lucky that it was me and a friend who discovered it on my end, but for others, having entire galleries deleted is very possible and i would almost rather not have that as a feature if that's "working as intended" <:(

i mean i know i could just opt not to use it and I try not to unless I really trust the person, but to me it's also more like, say, tumblr tags... just a quick "hey this character is in this picture too!", not "hey your character is in this pic so you have full rights to edit or delete as you please" so maybe i just misunderstand the purpose of the system as they made it? orz

ShopiStar

Kaoru Well, the thread I made reporting the issue was made more than a year ago, so maybe this thread will catch their attention concerning this issue?

Just last night I discovered that the "Delete Image" button doesn't appear if there's two or more characters tagged on it, but it's easily bypassed by untagging all characters first and just then, the button will appear. Not enough to deter people to delete other people's pictures imo.

0urobous

ShopiStar yeah, in order to delete the image entirely you have to remove all the characters from it, but the problem there lies in the fact that someone else can decide whether to delete it from your gallery or not by being able to delete YOUR character's tag as well as theirs... i totally understand things going sour and not wanting to link back to a character of someone you aren't friends with anymore or what have you, so i think removing tags of other characters isn't a bad feature per se, but the fact that by removing the tag on their end, it removes it on YOUR end too-- i think THAT'S where the issue is.

When ppl stop being friends with someone, some people like to delete everything that ever reminded them of said friend, and so they are likely the type to remove all images from all of their galleries featuring that friend's oc's... but some other people don't mind saving those pictures- it's a time passed, but it was still good while it was there-- and so they would like to keep their pictures, and i think that's the main clash going on. If someone wants to delete their tags, or even delete the pictures all together, that's their way of doing things and thats totally valid, but it shouldn't affect someone elses gallery <:(

ITS A DIFFICULT PROBLEM... i don't know enough about coding to know how to suggest fixing it, but hopefully someone will stumble across this thread and maybe reconsider the way the system works as-is ;-;
