Question: Unlisted vs Public?

I'm a little lost on what the purpose of unlisted is vs public?? I have two conflicting opinions on what it means and I uhh dont know if either is right! AAAA

unlisted means that the character won't show up via searching or via the front page (or while browsing the pages there) (: basically hides it from the general public, but not to the extent of being private or authorized.

@lilywise so if I leave unlisted, people can still come into my characters and see em? :3 just won't find them front page or with searches?
