Difference between designs and characters

What exactly is the difference between designs and characters?  I don't completely understand it; aren't they basically the same?

I don't believe that there is a universally accepted on definition on the difference, but in my personal opinion, they're different! A design is only the visual qualities of a character design. It's only about how the character looks, nothing more, no written info or name or all. A character is the design + the written information. Who are they, what do they do? Usually, I consider my adopts to be designs until I assign a character to them and start thinking about who they are, at which point I consider 'em characters <:

In short: to me, a design is only the visuals, a character is the design + their info

Okay, that makes sense.  Thank you! :)

if you're asking about designs vs characters specifically on this site, the designs are all characters that you've designed, regardless of whether or not you own them. i;e, if someone buys a wolf character you made, toyhou.se lists that wolf as one of your designs, but not your character. the characters are the designs that you own, regardless of whether not you designed them.

hopefully that makes sense? i'm not great with words
