Is it because the files are .jpeg or .jpg? Only .png and .gif files are "lossless" from what I know, and they shouldn't fade like jpeg/jpg does.
I thought I was crazy at first, but now this keeps happening...
Usually with characters that have reds on them. When I upload their art it fades/darkens. What the heck can I do to fix this?? I’m going to have to re upload a bit of art and it’s super irritating :/
Metadata for images is completely stripped on upload, this includes photograph's rotation, location, and embedded color profile. Make sure your color profiles are saved as sRGB to guarantee no change.
If you're using an Apple Product, you're probably SoL, Procreate had a recent update where you can change it from Procreate's default to sRGB but there's been chatter on a previous thread that it didn't fix it since it's possible it doesn't use the 1999 standard. Setting sRGB of any type will reduce the color change but if it doesn't stick to the standard, it's going to change slightly.
In Photoshop, use Export for Web, make sure sRGB is checked, or you can do Quick Export for PNG, which I think also defaults to sRGB. If you're using anything else (monitor default, Adobe RGB, CMYK, etc) your colors Will change.
I believe ClipStudio exports sRGB by default, but you can check it in Preferences -> Color Conversion. Make sure sRGB is selected for your RGB profile.
I don't know how to do this in any other art program, so Google up "sRGB profiles" for your program for more details on if it's not the above.
Well, one that’s doing it is jpg and another that’s doing it is png so I guess that’s not the case,, this is driving me absolutely bonkers ahhhh 😫
As I said in my post, Apple products don't use the standard (likely because of their Retina technology, they use P3 by default), unfortunately. You'll have to fix it in Photoshop or another photo-editing program. If you're using Procreate, it seems there's going to be issues even if you use their RGB. ClipStudio *may* be able to fix it but I'm not familiar with the mobile's version and I know it's a little limited, and it still may be running P3, which has a much wider range of colors than sRGB, which is where your issue is coming into play. (sRGB is a Microsoft standard, so Apple basically doesn't get to "use" it, barring a few exceptions, so they made a better range.)
https://photographylife.com/srgb-vs-adobe-rgb-vs-prophoto-rgb this is basically the issue. sRGB is the "worst" and most dull palette in the world. And is also the default for web browsers everywhere. If there is no color profile listed (ex: it is stripped), it picks that.
If toyhouse didn't strip this extra info, you wouldn't have a problem, so you have to actually aim for this particular gamut. Unfortunately, I think with the ability to resize and watermark any image, they have to conform to a specific standard, and that is to wreck all extra metadata.
