Was I ‘scammed’?

I am in a few art Facebook groups and recently I bought two adopts from someone in one group. Well when I checked another group she sold the designs I bought there too! Like to me and another person!

From my understand of adopts this is not something that is supposed to happen but I guess I could be wrong. I never sold an adopt to more then one person. So is this okay? Is it frowned upon? Should I report them to the group admins?

Yup!
sadly you got scammed, adopts are meant to be sold to one buyer only (unless if it's a co-owned but that's not what's happening here)

Selling the same adopt to more than one person is definitely wrong. I would try to message the artist first to ask about what they did if I were in your situation. Perhaps also ask for a refund as well at the same time. If they refuse, then you can report them to the admins and do a chargeback on paypal.

And I think you should inform the other person who bought adopts from them too, so that they can be warned.

Thank you for the replies I sent a message to the other buyer and they were sold to us within a hour and the artist has yet to reply to us. We also found out she is also selling them on Etsy.

As an update she said she didn’t know she sold us the same one as she was selling these in many places and but why would she use the same account if she was trying to scam. The fact they were sold within an hour of each other and she has no proof she posted other ones anywhere else I am more inclined to believe she still was trying to scam

It was scam, and very clearly had the intention of doing so with what you have said. Even if you had a character for sell on lets say 4 sites, you keep others updated and close/remove when sold right away. (You dont forget you have already sold it).

But like others say, ask for a refund and report it to the admins in the group as it just sound plain intentional.
