Asking tips to improve my adopts

Posted 2 years, 4 months ago by Trade Banya

Should I draw a portrait of the character?

5 Votes Yes, even if it raises the price
3 Votes No, a higher price would discourage buyers

I've been thinking about this for a while.
My adopts (Sale\Trade folder) often get labeled as LQ because I use bases, even when they come with 2-3 pieces each. I'd like them to be considered at least not that lowballing, so...
If I drew myself the portraits would they be better? Or at least worth considering?
The character IC has a portrait drawn by me, I posted IC just to show an example.

Please be honest, would the portrait make them still LQ? Or MQ?

PS: I know that the concept of quality is subjective, but I often get straight up rejected or told my adopts are lowball\low quality...
I don't want to cause a fuss and\or whine with the question of course, I only what to know what direction to focus on to improve ;w;

I think they're reasonably priced for bases and aren't lq

I don't think offering a portrait as an addon is a bad idea, but I don't think you should include it in the initial adopt.

I know a lot of people (myself included) who prefer less art when buying fresh new adopts. Usually it's because I want the option to change it around to my own style.
And if there are small details that I want to remove or change, it's harder to do that if there is already a lot of art for the character displaying those details.

I don't really know what the typical adopt buyer is like as I don't often purchase characters, but if I were really interested in an adopt portait or no portait would not really have a big difference. Price might, but anywhere up to about $20 I wouldn't mind.  The only benefit to me would be if the portrait was the piece that really made me like the adopt, which is possible but if there are 3-4 other images with the character its kinda unlikely. It also really depends on how much you value your portraits at, because in my experience an additional piece of art doesn't add as much value to a pre-made adopt as the art is actually worth. It does in theory, but I have seen people have trouble getting buyers to pay it.

Imo your adopts are mid-quality for on-base adopts on toyhouse. You clearly put some thought and time into the designs. Obviously this is subjective, but for me lq on-base adopts are ones where the coloring is poorly done (can't tell where marking begin or end, colored outside the lines without it being to show a feature, etc) or they are so basic that they could be any character (think literally just a brown dog).

I think I'll follow your suggestion and make the portraits as an add-on for the pre-existing adopts, for the next one they'll be just the main art with not so many pieces
