ok i was only expecting comments on dakota but tHE FACT THAT YOU DID ALL FOUR OF THEM,,, I AM SO THRILLED! this is the EXACT kind of stuff i Love to see from other people regarding my characters, and it's rare to get even simple comments of affection on them, let alone such in-depth opinions and thoughts, so thank you so so much for every darn letter of your reply!! i can't remember the last time i got so excited over something someone said to me xD time to give you WAAAY too long of a response like oh gosh this got Lengthy and i am at least a Little bit sorry
dakota is all about high fives, hand-slap away!! B) i'm really happy to hear about her profile, i designed it all on dark mode too - it can be really hard to get bright colors like that without hurting folks eyes, so i was especially careful in my choices. her cat, saturn, is someone i like keeping a mystery to - she's definitely more than your average house cat, though! i need to give her her own sub-page or something xD
Dakota loves her funky cyber-cat! She hasn't thought much about her mysterious origin or why she's got the cybernetics, obviously after the portals start popping up she assumes she came through one of them, but her backstory is a complete mystery. And you'd be correct about how she feels about adventuring! As an avid fan of fiction growing up (and even still now, of course) she's always dreamed about getting to visit far-off magical lands. Finally getting the chance to have those dreams become reality? Becoming the anime protagonist of her own adventure-of-the-week tale with her favorite people in the world? She couldn't be more thrilled about it x) (the stranger and more off-beat from her home dimension, the better!)
Headcanon accepted! ( I've just realized her refsheet originally had a "bag contents" text section, but I forgot to transcribe it to her toyhouse page when I made the switch ^^; ) I like to imagine on some days she might have candy in her bag, but the idea that the second the clock hits midnight on october 1st she's shoving a bag of gummy bears in her hoodie pocket and keeping it there for the rest of the month? ABSOLUTELY. YES. 100%! That's so much more convenient than having them stowed away in some bag, now they're on her person, and readily available. Especially for discrete snacking and sharing during class xD

I,,, AGREE ABOUT CLARA BEING PRETTY WHOLEHEARTEDLY thank you so much i am a little bit gay for my own character, she's just so gorgeous,,, aaaaAA-
HAHA YEAH I AM. SO GLAD SOMEONE FINALLY POINTED OUT THE IMPENDING BREAKOUT OF WWII. it's not mentioned in her profile since i try to keep profiles as "beginning of/to the story" friendly as possible, but by the time the war breaks out in europe in late 1939 she and james are married And they're expecting their first kid (twins, as it turns out!) due only a few months after that! rough time to be bringing up kids, tbh :') pearl harbor forcing the US' hand in joining only two years later then has them worrying about the draft, it never comes for James in the end but every day when she gets the mail Clara has to consider a future without her husband, where their babies don't have a father, and potentially the end of her career as one half of a dancing duo - and whether or not these would be temporary while he's deployed, or permanent if something were to happen, is something she can't bear to think about. I guess the natural balance of having a glamorous, idealized 1930's love story is having it be followed by the harsh reality of the early 1940's and how it affects their 'happily ever after', right? xD
thank you!! i meant her to be a very elegant, charming gal ^ u ^ she Def has a voice perfect to fall asleep to, i Wish i was lucky enough to have her sing me to sleep every night ; - ; <3
I HAVE DONE SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH RESEARCH INTO THESE CHARACTERS TO GET THEM ERA-ACCURATE THANK YOU SO SO MUCH FOR APPRECIATING IT <3 <3 <3 <3 i've had a love of 20th century history for a long time, and it's such a pleasure to get to use what I already had and get to learn More to help flesh out characters that I care so much about. Plus any day I can watch an old movie for both entertainment AND research purposes is a good day by me xD So not a time traveler (REGRETTABLY,,,, these eras had their problems and i wouldn't want to live in them by any means BUT I WOULD LOVE TO VISIT FOR A WEEKEND OR SOMETHING) but rather just some gal with ADHD and a long-standing hyperfixation on ~ * ~ h i s t o r y ~ * ~
arguably, that is almost the same thing as a time traveler xD
that's one of my favorite pictures of them ; u ; also, probably one of my favorite pictures i've drawn all year. it is absolutely swoon-worthy. the levels of soft intimacy and subtle mutual pining are Strong. it simply makes my heart happy thank you for loving it as much as i do
flappers! based on her age i'd like to think she was one herself at one point, flappers themselves (the original versions, not the versions that spawned from hollywood starting around the 1950's with all the rhinestones and tassels! there Were flappers closer to that representation, but they were pretty much just entertainers. every-day flappers were a lot different :D if you already knew this, i congratulate you!) basically represented independent women, rejecting society's norms up until that point and taking a stand for how They wanted to dress, how They wanted to act, how They wanted to do things. some flappers just wore men's jackets and ties with skirts, some of them kept things more feminine with the boxy, unfitted dresses. I feel like she'd stick more to the feminine side since that's just how she likes presenting herself, but she was Absolutely what most folks would consider a flapper in her younger years. (i need to draw this at some point = w = ) But with time she got older, and the 1930's went back to idealizing femininity - she leaned into that hard. Back to form-fitting dresses and elegant styles we go~

He's a handsome lad, I don't blame you ( ´ ▽ ` )ノ It took me a Lot of tries to get his design down, he had a lot of iterations before I settled on this one. I think I'd gotten the articles of clothing right, he still had the shirt, the tie, the vest, the pants, but not the styles. Then one night I was watching Singin' in the Rain for funsies, and I was Completely entranced by the costumes during the "Good Mornin'" number - specifically Cosmo's. (if you're unfamiliar with the film, he's the one in the light gray vest 'n pants with the multicolored tie) I distinctly remember liking how nice the high-waisted pants looked alongside the higher-cut, flat-bottomed vest. A little fashion research and adjustments with a new palette 'n pinstripes and b a m, i'd done it. I also gave him two-toned dance shoes, since i Adore that style of shoe. Can't remember what the exact name of the shoe style is called though
Oh, and since you mentioned it, he plays a Beautiful rendition of Gymnopédie No. 1 ;)
TYSM!! <3 James and Clara are basically two halves of a whole that fit together perfectly, their chemistry is electric. I love them so much x)
Ooh, I like that idea! A bit of wine can be healthy, and it's even kinda classy. Clara fancies the occasional drink herself, and she's one of those rare people that actually sorta enjoys the smell of cigarette smoke? Not really the way it hangs around in excess but there's something about the way that it clings to his clothes that she finds very charming. It's a very faint smell since he doesn't smoke very often, but it's there, and in those tiny, fleeting amounts, it's enjoyable. If the dangers of smoking were more well-known back then I figure she wouldn't want him smoking at all, but it's the 30's :P

Thank you! (i am saying thank you a lot but i Do mean every one of them (': ) She is a lot of fun to draw! I always encourage people to draw when they say they're not confident, cuz here's the thing - because i Definitely have time for a tangent in these pages upon pages of scrawl - art, firstly, is meant to be an Enjoyable experience. Whether you're a beginner, or just not very confident as an artist, you should always draw whatever you think is fun, even if you think it's beyond your skill level. Cuz honestly, making something that's a little bit wonky, or that didn't turn out right because of details or complexity, or even something that's outright Bad, is still better than having made nothing at all. Plus, trying new things is how you learn new things! B) Tangent over, back on topic, she's not as complex as she looks, believe it or not. I used to struggle with the arms a bit, specifically the grid patterns, but I found a way to simplify them, and it's done me well so far. If you'd really like to, you should give her a go! I know I'd love to see it, but absolutely no pressure :D
B i g M o o d. Synthia is probably the character of mine I could best vibe with, too. She's so chill. She is the epitome of chill. And if you'd like to get an idea of what kind of music she'd make, her linked character playlist is full of the stuff. The windows96 stuff is probably the best examples, but she's got a broad taste in music, so any of it goes pretty much.
Funnily enough the 'city in a dome in the desert, malfunctioning so it only displays night' is something I made for a different cyberpunk character story, Tessa's - but when I got Synthia, i decided it really fit her as well, so I stuck her in that universe! Tess and Synthia don't know each other, but they do live in the same city at the same time so In Theory they could bump shoulders at some point.
I know that's a joke but that sounds Pure. Yespls.

So like thank you so much?? xD Genuinely think this is one of my favorite comments I've gotten on Toyhouse so far, thank you for giving me something to do for a couple hours and letting me ramble about my characters. I absolutely don't mind the length of your comment, in my eyes the longer a comment the better. I can't overstate how much I love getting feedback from others, ESPECIALLY on my original concepts and characters. Your reply was a real treat! ; u ; <3 So thank you sincerely one more time, and have a good night!
