Devin is based on Dante AND Vergil from Devil may Cry:
He has the white hair because of this and he only eats Pizza and Strawberrysundays like Dante and the Colours he has from Vergil.
and he has a brother who is based on those two who always fights aginst him. Who wars clothes in the colours of Dante. Both brothers are half demons too!
Is there anything more fun than creating new characters? Probably not...but there are certainly things that we enjoy outside of that creative process. From movies we love to watch, songs we listen to on repeat, books we can go back to over and over, and games we could play for hours if not days on end, and as a result. Sometimes, intentionally or not. We inject a bit of our other loves into the creative process. This thread is for that very purpose. Was your character's name a reference to someone from your favorite book? Was their fashion sense lifted from a show you watched? Did you get their hairstyle from an anime you saw ages ago or did some aspect of their past come about from listening to that song that you just love? Why not post the connections here? All references from big to small. From details that may seem super obvious to you to the minor minutia that someone only as in-depth in whatever lore as you would even start to recognize? It doesn't matter. If you have something that helped influence your character why not share it here and let everyone know, not only something that went into your creative process, but also maybe introduce people to something new.
Examples:
Your character's pet is named after something from a video game
Your character wears a bit of jewelry taken from some part of a short story
Your character has a phone charm of some video game faction
Please note: This is just a thread for references. Sure these references could inform large parts of a character's design or world but there's a difference between that and say a fan character for whatever bit of media they were made for. Nothing against fan characters it is just not the goal of this thread. However, if you have a fan character who has a reference to some other bit of media? Say a wizard for the Harry Potter universe who loves a particular band from the 90s enough to have some merch on them to a Homestuck fantroll with some obscure video game reference? They are more than welcome here. In essence.

my character Beronica named one of her infamous non finishing finishing moves "feral rush " as a nod to the golden sun series
Rune's obviously based off of Sly Cooper. His weapon of choice is a cane and his father's name is Sly's old name (which is J.T.), as well as having a blue color scheme. And of course, he's a raccoon thief. (Another thing to add is that he's currently has a thing for a fox who fights crime.)
The entire Electra Heart album can be associated to Anderson one way or another, and the little heart drawn on the cheek is a reference to it. (I also refer to him as Electra Heart Shiro, but that's because it's a run on joke with my friend because the similarities Anderson has with Shiro is the hair and the artificial arm- which happened to be a coincidence in character design)
Arson is my Incineroar gijinka that is named after Tony the Tiger (as well as the crime known as Arson.) He was also loosely made off of inspiration of the song Crazy=Genius
Spectre's last name comes directly from the Cheshire Cat, as Gengars tend to remind me of so.
Unsure if these count as,, dorky but! they are little references my little characters keep.They're mostly all in the... names than design.
Blue Chalcedony, Ribbon Jasper, and this Ruby were roughly based on the main guys from Workaholics.
Malice ((who I designed half of!)) has a shirt that says "don't let me drown" on it, which is a reference to the song Drown by Bring Me The Horizon!
Rikuo's headband thing is 100% a reference to Naruto as well, since when I designed her I was still really into that! It's not directly from Naruto though, but rather from a fan thing I came up with.
Sigrun's name is inspired by Sigrun Edie and Tuuri, Lalli, Onni Hotakainen from the webcomic Stand Still Stay Silent
just a lil thing, but Goro was named for Goro Shimura and Yutaka Taniyama, who developed the Taniyama-Shimura Conjecture (which was later instrumental in proving the infamously unproven for centuries Fermat's Last Theorem - "for all n > 2, x^n + y^n = z^n has no non-trivial integer solutions)
not a movie or game or whatnot but. math history is definitely dorky
Marisol's design and occupation is based on Sarah from Huniecam Studio :')
Posted here once before, but I was flipping through my references, and Z has this going on. A DBZ Capsule Corp logo on her one hoodie, but also she has a glove that's based off Aika's from Skies of Arcadia.
