Baz was just created as an obligatory deuteragonist to serve as James' friend (though he was originally going to be a more villainous rival). Didn't expect the dude to be so well-liked, and it did motivate me to expand upon his character and make him even more entertaining.
@Judas-la-carotte's thread about underrated characters made me think about the opposite! I'm not going to use the word "overrated" because I certainly don't mean that any OCs deserve less love, but do you have any characters whom you're surprised get more attention than you expected they would, among your characters?
Maybe people pick them more often in forum games or art trades than other characters, they have more faves than you expected, or they're just the ones your friends have gravitated towards for whatever reason-- but maybe they aren't among your own favorites, or they're just not the OCs you expected would be popular.
And has that character's popularity inspired you to use or develop them more, or give them a bigger role in whatever story or project they may be in?
There are no particular rules for this thread; just be nice and don't try to make people feel bad about their taste or anything like that.
costin was meant to be very unlikable, but i noticed that he kept getting favorites and in forum games, characters actually liked him and thought he was attractive, so i put more effort into developing him and now he has a full bio which goes in depth about why hes the way he is now
my main!! i discarded him for like a year before wanting to work on ocs again. i didnt really have much of an audience to show him off to, so it started with some friends over discord. i honestly genuinely thought that he wasn't going to be very liked, but we ended up talking about him more than the rest of the cast of the story he's in. this motivated me to finish his story and his character and have him interact with other ocs more.
God, this bean right here. She's become more loved than my sona which actually bothers me a little bit, being that I have more planned with my sona (Kitsu) than this bean. I do love Kandie with all my heart though, makes me want to incorperate her into more things I'm doing ^^
Mellite deffffff, I didn't really put that much effort into her and just kinda made her on a whim. Though people seem to really like her! I've even gotten fanart just out of the blue for her ^^ I'm honestly not really that motivated to use her more since shes always just been my weird character that i only have the vaguest personality and backstory for who i just like to doodle sometimes lol!
I'm honestly so relatively proud of all of my well liked ocs that I don't think anyone is more liked than I expected, cuz attention is good, but I would say that Moke definitely has more favorites than he deserves HAHA. He's a terrible, terrible person and I can see why people would like his character but, he's still so terrible and unwilling to get better )8 I'm not complaining at all, I like when people like my ocs, even the terrible ones (cuz I make LOTS of terrible people, it's just that Moke doesn't even have something good to hang onto) but he's very far up, and definitely more than I expected!
Everyone really loves Azazel for some reason. He's only a few days old but he racked up nine (it's a lot to me) faves in, like, three days. He's a grumpy bastard so I'm surprised he's so popular.
Probably this guy. He's my most favourited character here, but people seem to like him on other sites as well. I'm guessing that maybe they just like his design. Or maybe they don't realize that he's a huge jerk (I only just realized that he doesn't have a personality section on his profile). He's my oldest character though; I made him when I was like 12 or something so it's kinda cool that people like him so much.
