I figure these out either by comparing characters to myself (I'm an INTJ), to people whose mbti types I know, or just by researching the types in various places. I usually don't start off trying to make them match a type...

Thanatos is a stereotypical INTJ except he wont deny that he has emotions and hes an artist not a scientist

lophius is my self-insert making her an intj but her enneagram is a bit different

Most of my characters have their MBTI type listed on their profile! (: If they aren't, it's probably because it's an old profile I need to revamp, lmao. Tbh, even if all my characters have defined personalities, I prefer to just use MBTI types, as well as dumping some personality adjectives their general "About" section rather than having a big "Personality" section haha

Most of the time I just take that "Which MBTI are you?" guide image and take the test for each of my OCs, since I already have their personality in mind. Sometimes I also try to "balance" things a bit when I'm hesitant.

I also often use character alignments and add them to profiles, especially when a character has a set role in a story! :D

For me, MBTI isn't really something that I take super seriously but I still enjoy finding out what types my characters are. I usually just take an online test from the perspective of my character. I've done it for most of my main characters:

I'm not too great at analyzing MBTI by their written characteristics, so I just took the 16personalities test but as my OCs in mind....lol

The one I'm confident with is ENFP (The Campaigner) for Kokoro and INFP (The Mediator) for Kureha! I tried looking up more about these two personalities and it seems like it fits them a lot. I have yet to confirm for others, though but I'll get to that eventually c:

mbti-notes @ tumblr is a goldmine of info for MBTI typing if it's any help to anyone! It's also what I use to type my OC's after finding that page I realized a few of my OC's had been mis-typed when I was using an online test.

I find MBTI typing fascinating and use it to help develop OC's (also learnt a fair bit about myself in the process so that was neat). MBTI typing helps me flesh things out a bit more once I have a base personality down, it also helps me figure out where some OC's are likely to clash/what they're likely to clash over and how they are likely to react to stress. It's a pretty handy tool, imo.

Most of my characters don't have solid mbti types (simply because I don't feel like taking the test) but the ones that do usually do because I needed to flesh out their personality and/or find a way to word things.

-Yellow is an ISTJ

-Lav is an ESTJ (or ESFJ, it was pretty close)

I really enjoy studying MBTI and it was a big starting point for all of my OCs! It can be great for making sure that your characters engage in believable behavior/development if you understand the functions. These are all subject to change, but...

— Nick is an ESTP.

— Diane is an ISFJ.

— Sam is an ISTP.

— Miriam is an ENFP.

— Freddy is an INFP.

The only one I know is Cypria because I did the test with snippets of her personality in mind lol :D. She is an ENFJ - the Protagonist.

Only one I've tested thus far is Hec, and he's ENTJ.
