đź’ˇ Why does your OC exist (in meta)?

Posted 5 years, 5 months ago (Edited 5 years, 4 months ago) by fuelli

Hi! A lot of us have OCs with fleshed-out backstories and complex personalities... but what was the first thing, the first trait you've come up to for them? What made you create this character? The answer can be as serious ("I wanted to create a character to share with my experiences with <event>") or silly ("I really like pasta so I've made a character who likes pasta") as you want!

Just have fun and please keep things civil ♥

 Erhard Avistella

I made this guy for the sole purpose of shipping somebody with my other OC, Vistalia, but then I ended up liking him and developing him further.

Most of my characters are fan characters for me to kinda selfship since it helps me cope with things, but otherwise I usually make a character because I want to design a certain outfit or something.

starfast

All my characters are for my stories, so when I create my characters it really just depends what I need for that particular story.

Ara for instance, I made because I needed a serious character that would act as the leader of the group.

Andor was created to balance out Ara's seriousness when I realised I kind of made him a little too serious. His role in the story has kind of changed over time, but he's always been there to provide comic relief and keep things light. He's kind of like the anti-Ara.

This is kind of funny, but Farley originally had a much smaller role but he was kind of like the guy who bullied the main character and her friends but then I ended up liking his character too much and I didn't want him to be a mean person so he became her friend instead. I made another character to fill the role of the bully, but the same thing happened lmao (this second character actually ended up being the love interest lmao).

Crispin was created because I wanted a winged character.

Crackle Bit-Bit

Oh man, this character is only existing because of a lightning in a bottle chance! First off, I discovered his species (Gelleggies) which are normally closed on the day a MYO event was going on! And this MYO event was short, only 3 days open in total, 2 days for registration, and I found out about them and the event just a few hours before the registrations ended. Then I had not even a full day to create the finalized design of my Gelleggie since I was going to be leaving to spend thanksgiving break at my grandparents place. It took me 8 hours to create Crackle's final design, and by the time I finished it and got him approved and made official, it was time to leave. Also his theme is fireworks, his original theme was going to be swirls, but I couldn't come up with a design I liked (hence why it took 8 hours)

 Zach Murderhorse

Zach was actually going to be a super Villan type.. now he's just some edgy nerd lmao

Vossen Mashter-Potato

Vossen here was my first ever OC, she exists because, well, I just wanted an OC, and she was originally a medieval fox girl with armour who thawed from ice.
Then, she was a part of a Closed Species that I REALLY don't like anymore, but she joined it as a fox character again, but someone gifted me a trait, which became her signature fire fur.
And we now come to the now, It's been roughly... 6 months(?) since I left them, she has a design I actually like now, scrubbed clean of silly lines that, to me, held her back.

To me, Vossen has become her own beacon of freedom from her meta timeline, and to be honest, I'd consider her my master OC, almost a persona.

Neon Toxin GLITCH-DXCTOR

Originally, when I was five, I had really bad hallucinations; in particular, two reoccurring ones. I won’t detail those because they still scare me out of my pants.

SO basically I made an imaginary friend because I loved those and loved dragons. After spending too much time on the Internet looking up “the sparkly puppies” because I was five and too young to actually know the term sparkledog, I drew a long noodle thing with glasses and a rainbow tail, calling him “Dragon Friend”.

His design’s changed A LOT, but originally Neon was created as an imaginary friend to scare off my hallucinations. Thus, my first OC.

Almondlover

Cagoose was created when I was bored and decided to ""photoshop"" some abomination together real quick in ms paint. It's quite fun, if you haven't done it before, I'd recommend it!

Bea, while not designed by me, I had originally suggested in the jbd discord as a "clickbait bean", because tbh, I REALLY wanted to make a Be Amazed fancharacter for the longest time. It must have been fate that I won her in that raffle!

Cowberry was my solution to wanting to dream about being a sims youtuber, because honestly, who hasn't? In an ideal world, she'd be my mascot!

Chickenboy was the result of a sudden burst of inspiration when watching an episode of GMM, when they shoved a mayo squeeze bottle down the neck of a raw chicken. I instantly screencapped it and turned it into a character.

Chaddick was created on that same binge session. I'd wanted an ape character for the longest time, and when I was watching the episode about stain-proof clothing, and saw the wine-stained shirt, it looked EXACTLY like the body for the character I'd imagined. I screencapped it, and out of laziness just cut out his body and added my own remaining details.

Firewall was another one that I technically didn't ORIGINALLY design. His original design, which has been lost to the sea of time, was created on this free app game wolf avatar maker by someone on Amino, who made a joke 'giveaway' where he was the prize. He was intentionally made to be awful looking, the colors clashed and the parts didn't even fit together. But I took one look at that pug-faced llama with fire legs, and I fell in love. I asked for him, because I geniunally wanted this character. They gave him to me but instantly deleted their account, never to be seen again. I then redesigned him into what you see today!

Fuse, one of my longest-lasting ocs. Not designed by me, but the first part of his character was ALSO not by me. His name. Fuse Buttercream was the name that the owners of his parents requested to be kept, and I built off of that by making him have a "short fuse". (HA! So funny, right?)

Jonas was created using the fursona generator. Yeah.

Kusai embodies by love for the default ms pallete.

Myev probably has one of the funnier creations! My friends were starting a dnd campaign, and I really wanted to join. After looking over the classes, I decided I wanted to be a bard. I offered the idea of being a half-orc bard, to which they denied, claiming that it was a terrible combo. My retaliation was "let me live!" which I later incorporated into her last name as a homage to the spark of her design.

Pebble is not created by me, but she was a custom. I wanted an anthro fish.

Puree is emo sonic character, which I wanted.

(more coming later lmao i have too many characters)

 Moved Jules

Orginally created Silas for an Ouran Highschool Host Club RPG (it was actually a RPG which didn't require you to know OHSHC). Back then he was called Eddie and I used Alex Mercer from Prototype as a faceclaim. After the RPG closed down due to inactivity, he did grew on me, so I decided to make him into an OC. Not a lot changed; most same backstory (though a bit more dramatic), same name for his dad and mom, still has a brother, same personality, same likes/dislikes. Same everything. Still has the same edge as around a year ago.

His name change came when I realized I had too many OCs with the letter E. Changed it to Xander briefly before renaming him Silas.

He was originally planned to be a throwaway btw.

Bernard (Bernadette) d'Eon Angry-Moth-Noises

I wanted a Moth character I could actually get attached to.

Atticfail

This is the thread I always needed. I almost remember all of my characters origins i believe.

Mantra Ray is a Red haired Manta Ray. I designed her because of the "Character Rainbow game" thread here on toyhouse, when I realised I never had a real red haired character. My first design was boring and had no sea animal to be bases on, but someone told me to call her Mantra. And then I came up with the Manta Ray theme and now she's the red haired Mantra Ray x"D

Sushko Sashea was starting with the tought of having a character like Filia from Skullgirls with complicated dark hair, but not having that living hair thing. I also wanted to design her after my first "cancelled" character design, Ume. So thats where her dress came from. After deciding that every Octogirl character should be based on a sea animal or smsing, I thought "Sushi" would fit her pretty well, so I redesigned her to be more fitting to that Sushi and lady theme.

Octogirl, and the whole universe was starting with me wanting to create a new story and have to have own characters next to my rp I was(or am) doing with friends. I had alot of ideas that wouldnt fit into our rp, so I searched for alot of ideas. My favourite german youtuber (Gronkh) was randomly talking about a octopus with a hat, and that was the sentence that was forcing me to create a girl with an octopus hat. Redesigned her too, wanted her to look more serious and less random.

Whisky was also created cause of a youtuber. When I was "younger" I watched a youtuber who had alot of guinea pigs, who made characters out of them, all being named after food etc. so I created alot of my own guinea pig characters. I collected alot of different names I could make designs for, but started to lose interest, so I had more names than designs. Later, I wanted to have something new for our rp, so I remembered that name list and wanted to create something after my favourite name idea of that list, Whisky. I also started to play league there and fell in love withe Twitch the rat. So i designed him to be a rat and gave him green hair since Twitch's splashart was pretty green. Whisky changed alot since then tho.

Karo was designed after wanting to have a simple looking character who's living free in a city, without parents or anyone knowing where he came from, but being friends to everyone in town. I wanted him to be more of a childish brat, but not stupid. I already had a character before him, but while playing him I started to exeggarate his brattyness and he started to become pretty annoying and stupid to everyone. This went so far that I started to find him annoying myself. Later I wanted to try again, so I gave him an older brother, Karo. He started fine and it looked like it'll work out this time since his power, to not be able to die, and overall story was way better for this character to work, but sometime he just became masochistic because of this power and then started to get crazy. He became as annoying as his younger brother, what was really demotivating dor me, so I started to give him some new powers that'd make him seem stronger and show that hes not as stupid as he started to seem. He accidently started to gain the power of being able to manipulate dreams etc, whats more explained im his bio. He started to get some better reputation again to my friends, but he'll never be more than the main rp oc's enemy. But I wont try again in rp. I'll be trying in octogirl next, but its no rp so it'll be easier this time, I hope.

Sina was designed after accidently watching the loud house, dont get me wrong i dont like this show, but that emo character inspired me to make an emo myself. I was shocked I never had one myself, so I designed one. While listening to "The glory of nelly" I felt like needing to make her some more "nice" looking, and somehow I had the idea to give her a garden grove. I think I also wanted to have a character based on Ara Haan's aesthetic. (Mostly Asura and Sakra Devanam) I think her biggest design influences where Ara Haan, Ahri and that girl from Blue Exorcist. Sina's and her foxes name, Ursula, both came from my character talking about those names. The song is also her second namegiver.

Edna is a character I do not have on my toyhouse yet, to prevent my friends finding out about her, since she's an rp character im still working on. I originally called her Red since I always loved that name and felt like it was the right time to call someone Red. I later changed it to 'Edna Red Ragna' for having a better witch name. She's Whiskys daughter, and the sole reason I made her was because everyone's calling Whisky ''daddy'' and it kinda became a thing. I also was inspired by some Red hot chilli peppers songs which he is based on, first wanting to call her Skye since i misheared some lyrics. She later became a witch, because I really wanted to have a witch character some day and another reason i cant remember, and this was the best oppurtunity to make a witch an important character. I originally wanted to have a more serious tough girly girl to fight alongside her dad, but I loved her first design so I didnt want to change it. It was kinda based on Osiria rose, which she isnt anymore. She was called Red Osiria first, too. For another reason I cant remember, she's also based on red riding hood and the Ragnarök thing. Having a completly different concept in the end, I decided to make two daughters. On being Edna, the other one called Midgard, being the daughter I first wanted to design for him. Shes based on someone on my school and i also cant remember why I gave her shadow based witchcraft...

Zakki atempause

this is wild but this trashlord started as naruto oc when i was like 12 i'm not even kidding. what a reason to make an oc
