💡 Why does your OC exist (in meta)?

One word: Spite

My friends and I want to do a Starfinder campaign later, and I very specifically wanted an ace pilot. Then reading the rules i read that "any deaf character is assumed to know the sign language equivalent of their native language" and I was like oh shit. I want a deaf character in a world where body mods/augmentations are common who retains her deafness and is a wanderlust-y adventurer. 

So I made Ivana, a mechanic pilot. She has a pet squox because our DM jokingly told me to give her one and then she wasn't joking.

Plus, I have always wanted to learn ASL, and she sort of gives me extra motivation, if that makes sense. I learned the signs for "safe," "mechanic," and "fly" very fast.

This One came about because a roleplay OC of mine died. I was quite devastated when I realized that it's best for that characters story-arc to leave them dead. I was in a three-hour bus-ride to meet the other participants in that roleplay (celebrating one of their birthdays + discussing what to do next) when I was dozing off on the bus and got this very vivid mental image of the entity-that-my-character-appeared-as-after-death just...showing up in the characters' former boss's office one dark and stormy night. Just this featureless mannequin-creature in black robes, standing in the corner like Ryuk from Death Note on his  first appearance going "Hello sir I wish to give a report" having no bloody idea how ominous it looks.

On a related note, the aforementioned roleplay OC, Henry Newman/Julia Wright came about because I thought at the time that it would be funny to make a characters whose big "quirk" was that the other player didn't know their biological gender, and seeing how long it would take for them to find out (answer: one year and seven months irl time, or just seven months if we don't count the time said character spent as a biological male in a medfant subplot). Everything else got built up around that premise and I love them.

A bunch of characters of mine who aren’t listed on here because they‘re still in development came about because of punny names I came up with. A cat with ADHD named Sam Catterbrain (S. Catterbrain. Scatterbrain. sCATterbrain), a husky musician with a lightning theme and dyed fur called Spark L. Dog (Sparkledog)... They’re a bunch of awful jokes and I love them.

i do a lot of fandom-based rp and in particular i play a lot of characters from fire emblem! one character, ophelia, was in the mobile game, so i got to watch some of her character interactions, but i hadn't played the game she was actually from, fire emblem: fates. lulu here ended up being my answer to the problem of "i want to rp ophelia, but Fates is a trash fire and i don't actually want to play it;" i took the parts of ophelia i was most interested in writing (mostly the loud, sparkling, starry chuuni girl thing) and went from there!

Wyatt is, probably to nobody's surprise, based on my primary skyrim character and my playstyle with said character, although he has gone through a lot of changes over the years and always had a bit of a life of his own.

Henri is one of those rare characters whose design just came to me like some sort of lightning strike? I was really tired and about to fall asleep but my brain was screaming at me to draw this boy so I just really fast doodled this as a guideline so I wouldn't forget him and it's honestly the funniest thing 

I have a feeling he was probably supposed to be an adopt maybe? But the moment I doodled him I was like nope he's mine now 

Because if we don't create him, we will be regret that decision till the day we die. Both of us love Pacific Rim franchise a lot since 2013, but we struggling to create a Jaeger that going to be legit from the lore to the design. After so many times redesign and rewrite his lore, we finally come to the final version of Dragon Lord ^^

Now he is our baby boy, we love him to hell!

Pinecone came to be after a really nasty night of art block and 0 motivation, so I pulled up my phone's really bad art app and just doodled something. Didn't have to be good, didn't have to make sense, just something. Because the background is transparent, it might look weird depending on your site theme.

I ended up really liking the long limbs and the fluffy so I kept fiddling with the design, and, eventually, Pinecone!

I just thought of the idea of a kid's show character who was treated like an outcast by mankind, and his creator disowned him, which is why Kaleido was created. Kaleido tried so much to become a villain, but all of his plans have gone to waste. He even had a girlfriend a long time ago, but he's been dumped by her. Now, he spends his entire life being with his evil pet worm named Beast.

I also have a few others who exist in meta:

Prince - You may have already know this already, but he exists because I thought of the idea of a nameless prince who becomes lost in a "much darker" realm that he didn't even belong to, and he tries his best to escape without failure. He cared so much about the creatures of said realm, and he wants to go against the vicious monsters that reside here.

Catherine - Because witches and candy, I guess.

Rosarot - I thought of the concept of the timeblade, and Rosarot's life and times, so she existed because she just wants to reunite with her missing parents after they were taken away by a cult.

Vetitum Armis - Vetitum exists because of his unfortunate and tragic fate. He was once famed as "he who only strikes once", but he was killed so easily by the same people who killed his father when he was younger.
