Show me your 'Mortal Enemies' / Rivals

Posted 5 years, 2 months ago by Malka aaawhyme

I didn't see an enemy thread, so I made one :> Hopefully i'm not stepping on anyone's toes, I don't want any enemies!

Show me your mortal enemies / foes / nemesis / rivals ? ... Frenemies works too!

Two or more characters that absolutely loath each other, or in constant battle with one another in some way.

Why do they hate each other so much?

---

For me- my characters: Malka and Sigma are mortal enemies.

Malka (who arrogantly believes he's innocent of any crime) causes the demise of Sigma's dear sister! In rage, Sigma imprisons Malka, making his life a living hell in jail. Malka isn't confined forever and once escaped, seeks revenge on Sigma for all his torment to him.  The two are constantly at each other's throats, often quite literally! Malka's methods of revenge are far more subtle and mental, while Sigma wants to make Malka pay with his life, quite physically at this point!

Do any of your characters have an 'enemy'?

Ledokol

I have quite a few of them I don’t know which pair to start first...

  •           Aleksandr and Vladimir are definitely mortal enemies by their professions - a military officer vs a mafia specialized in illegal arms dealing (and of course, those ‘arms’ are stolen from the army). To add more fuel to the fire, Aleksandr grew up with a circle of KGBs as his father tried to groom him for successor so he was close to some of his father’s subordinates. One such the man back stabbed the state and defected to work for a mafia group... and yes, that group is the one Vladimir is leading. So not only Aleksandr wanted to hound his former childhood mentor back to receive punishment, he also has to fend off Vladimir from getting his hands on the warfare androids the mafia boss has been eyeing.
  •           Dmitry Donskoy vs Arkhangelsk and Severstal - are the... trio of android siblings with strange rivalry that became far more explosive than it should have been. It could have been a three-way rivalry but luckily Severstal is never aggressive toward Arkhangelsk so they often team up against their eldest brother. Dmitry and Arkhangelsk are basically trying to destroy each other each time they fight, so Severstal often either helps Arkhangelsk in this attempt to overpower their eldest or helps him escape when it seems Dmitry was too strong. The reason that started all this mess is kept secret at moment but all I can tell you is, it’s basically a misunderstood gone horribly wrong. And Dmitry merely keeps the ‘facade’ up because he’s too prideful to accept his fault while the two youngest know nothing about what even started the mass brawl in their supposed family. When they came into the scene, the internal war was already in full swing.
  •           Shaposhnikov vs Tributs - yet another pair for android siblings rivalry, over a totally absurd issue (different lineages). Shaposhnikov refuses to recognize Tributs as an older brother and always raises aggressive behavior every time Tributs tries to claim his right as an older brother. For a short time they can somewhat coexist in peace, until their two younger siblings show up and Shaposhnikov will turn on his ‘possessive older brother’ mode, forbidding the two younger from treating Tributs as a brother. But the younger pair ignore such a demand, so it only fuels even more angry reactions from Shaposhnikov.
  •           My city personification pair Branimir and Nemanja disagree over too many issues to count for the last century. They used to be very tight but some of their personality is too similar so power struggle was inevitable, especially since both of them used to be capital at different periods. Clashing idea in military strategies and even political views push them apart and Nemanja is definitely not pleased with how Branimir leads the country, believing he can do a better job. They’re kind of frenemies, with more enemies than friends in most part nowadays.
  •           Lastly, Yaroslav and Mstislav - they were once foes in history when Mstislav won against his older(?) brother in a battle. After that they divided the land and became co-rulers until Mstislav’s death, then Yaroslav seized everything into his hands. When they both come back to human realm a thousand years later, Mstislav is mostly hostile toward Yaroslav for what the older had done after his own death regarding his city and his youngest brother. The main clashing subject between them is how Yaroslav is highly patricidal, always dreams of erasing their father from history. Meanwhile, Mstislav isn’t particularly well-loved by their father but still he views their father more favorable and intends to protect their father’s honor. In their current life, the hostility is most from Mstislav’s side while Yaroslav rarely starts a fight between them.

I love rivalries! My main comic project is essentially about a rivalry: bands Hedgemaze Expo and Persephone's Winter are the top contenders for the prize in a battle of the bands contest, so naturally they hate each other. HME think PW are a bunch of shallow mall punks, and PW think HME are twee hipsters. The bands' respective frontwoman and frontman are the true rivals-- the other members of their bands are less fussed about the competition-- and hey, Jill and Izzy are more similar than they'd like to think they are.

Another top rivalry is the wild Jill and her strict landlady, Mrs. Petersen. They hate each other and seem to live to piss each other off.

There's also Ryleagh and Ameya, the respective host and producer's assistant for the band competition show. They have opposite personalities and philosophies, and come at the show from very different priorities, so they get on like oil and water. The producer is blissfully ignorant of the friction between them, of course, so it seems like they'll have to find a way to get along for now.

Some other rivalries from minicomics or jokey stuff:

  • The Captain considers The Kraken to be his white whale, his nemesis. The Kraken is just delighted to have visitors!
  • BEEF BEEF and Danger Doop are rivals in a professional wrestling promotion-- BEEF is supposed to be the wily heel and Danger is supposed to be the beloved face, but the fans feel the opposite, and poor Danger Doop is just filled with despair.
  • The cartoon superhero Salmonman eternally battles his foe, the villainous Captain Riptide, who is bent on ruining everyone's beach fun (Waffledog is also a mascot from an in-canon rival restaurant).
  • Engineer Eddie is the heroic leader of plucky youths who battle greedy Abomatron weekly for control of the space train.
Frederick Waltz PicklePantry

Freddy's aunt was an assassin that was given the task of killing Taka's parents. Taka's father found her quickly and shot her first, but Freddy took her gun and shot him in return. So Freddy wants revenge for his aunt and Taka wants revenge for his father (and later on mother). The two are at each others' throats and won't rest until they've killed the other.

Sometimes, though, the rivalry can extend in a lesser vicious area where it's more in terms of love rivals. They still want to kill each other, ye, but gotta break the heart first and take everything they have. They both petty lol

R'jhera AlleycatIrony

r'jhera and m'jazii end up becoming dangerous rivals - considering r'jhera nearly accidentally got her excecuted when they first met and now continues to loot her towns and murder her citizens

if she ever gets him cornered, she won't hesitate to end his life

 Miles Wakefield Caine

Miles and Emil are sort of... frenemies I guess? I liken them to rivals but their relationship is kind of confusing like they do like each other but they're just super bad at communicating it with each other. Emil usually drags Miles into trouble or weird situations or alternatively Miles is pissed off by something stupid Emil is doing and then they start bickering :') But also Miles is temperamental and also lacks some common sense so then Emil in turn is like Ugh Why Do You Gotta Be Like That and then they bicker again

At the end of the day they do have each others' backs and honestly they'd like to be better friends but they're both too dumb and proud to really start changing their approaches

FoofyFaun

Blade and Khavadku hate each other pretty thoroughly.  To give the REALLY short version of why they're enemies, Blade's sword is basically the key to freeing Khavadku's god, Agora.  But Blade's been specifically called out by his own goddess to kill Agora, so of course he's not gonna give Khavadku the only key to releasing a chaotic god.  Overall, Agora is the bigger enemy, but Khavadku is pretty well constantly making sure Blade's life on earth is utter hell until he caves in and gives him the sword, which of course, he never does.  Khavadku lost an eye because of Blade, Blade's lost a bunch of sleep because of Khavadku, Khavadku has lost pride due to being outsmarted by Blade....

...Blade lost his uncle because Khavadku sent assassins out to kill him....

...yeah, they're not good for each other.

Meanwhile, in another universe...

Mayor and Bellatrix are arch enemies because Mayor scammed Bellatrix's entire space crew.  She's been holding a grudge on him ever since.  She'll send saucers in to dump space goop all over Mayor's town, then Mayor counters the attack by tossing creme pies at the saucers and causing them to crash due to loss of vision... it's all pretty ridiculous.

Nukala and Gyrai are also enemies.  While Mayor and Bellatrix's rivalry is supposed to be silly, this one is a bit more serious.  When Nukala stopped abusing his nightmare-creating powers and started to redeem himself, Gyrai started to haunt and torment him as a way to peer pressure him into returning to his old ways.  Being a former nightmare mage, Nukala doesn't scare easily.  He thinks most scary things are either cool or have another side to them that people aren't seeing. Gyrai, on the other hand, utterly terrifies Nukala.

Sunny and Luna LavenderDeer

Luna absolutely despises Sunny. Luna wasn't originally born as a siamese twin, Sunny originated from a virus which attached itself to her and formated a second head overtime, slowly taking control. Sunny slowly drains the life force from Luna, as his plan is to become the stronger of the two, inevitably killing Luna off taking full control of the body. Sunny is the absolute opposite to Luna, and makes her life a living hell.

Carrtier Jacobson Lonestarcelt

Were it not for the laws of this land (and other people's interventions) Carrtier and his sister Vardah probably would have killed each other by now. They've pretty much hated each other (or rather Carrtier hated her and she just responded to his hate eventually) the instant they knew of each other's existence. Carrtier sees her as basically the embodiment of why his family split up and Vardah was constantly pissed off at him insulting her mother and eventually they just threw down and had a rumble. It started as almost a friendly sparing match but ended in a knock down drag out fight which resulted in Carrtier needing stitches and his face left with a permanent scar, Vardah forced to stay home from work for a week to recover, and the two of them basically having a doctrine of mutually assured destruction since if either of them fought the other it would probably hurt them both equally.

FrankensteinLabs

Oh man oh MAN...

Nick and Matilda are HUUUUGE rivals. Their rivalry has literally nearly destroyed entire cities when they fight.

Nick sees Matilda as a weak, cowardice girl who betrayed their 'mothers' will. Although, the weakness that Nick despises is mostly emotional - he hates Matilda for being so soft, compassionate, and kind. A childhood rivalry turned into giant robot fights.

Matilda sees Nick as stuck up, brainwashed, and apathetic; all of which are true. He later works himself to near death, leading to Matilda and Nick sharing the same house. They fight alot, and nick is known to randomly try to fight her, to test his skills.

Matilda spars with Nick alot, as an excuse to kick the everloving SHIT out of him.

they both try to one-up each other in terms of robotics and both get their asses kicked by their dad for it later LOL

Chief Dove moryonenn

Chief Dove is trying to avoid having her town become part of Princess Snot's kingdom and they argue about it frequently. They refuse to see each other's points of view and show no signs of budging on the matter.
