Strange character inspirations/origins?

Posted 5 years, 1 month ago by jammyrolling

I haven't seen a thread like this around in a while and i can't find one oops So here we are! Have you got any strange character origins?

For example, when I first created the Bridgeport series, a lot of characters were actually originally either animals or mushrooms. Now they are most definitely not animals or mushrooms lmao
So who else has strange character origins? The stranger the better!

not sure if this is 100% what u mean, but he was inspired by a bent plastic fork i found on the oval at school during athletics day

Richard renren

i had a spider in my room for six months - and i called him richard. he was pretty big, killed pests in my room, and overall was fun to watch. he disappeared one day, but inspired this OC!

Dold MasterShortpants

Dold and his boyfriend Rwolo don’t have particularly weird origins, but their names come from... interesting interpretations of some text written on their wips during the stream when flipped around and rotated and whatnot, haha. Dold, being based on a blobfish, was blob flipped around; Rwolo, based on a clownfish, happened when the canvas was flipped and we saw the n in clown looking a little short and stubby, and the ends of c curved towards each other just a little too much ;p Several other Vaikis based on aquatic animals (affectionately nicknamed fishkis) from various batches were named with the same methods, including a sea turtle named Pez, if I recall :0

long-ish story actually. So one of my favorite disney movies is Wreck it ralph and I had this one AU that took place in someone's house (like characters could go between consoles etc. at anytime idk I just wanted to see how a home would work in that universe compared to an arcade). He wasn't even supposed to be a major character either, just a small guy that hangs out in corners and hoards scraps from other games. His og story was the console he was on got corrupted and he escaped and hid in a different one.

Forgot why, but I thought "hey what if he was stuck on the corrupted console?" and started running with that idea / Ditched the rest of the AU

Peanut (Who is now retired) is based on a really small slime toy that I got from a gachapon inside a nearby mall last summer, and he's basically a tiny slime inside a capsule. I, unfortunately, dropped him from use as I was unable to connect with his design properly.

When I was doing my Graphic Design course at college, one of the assignments was making a metal sign and aging it (I scratched the shit out of it and tried to get it to rust a lot). The spray paint I used had a bit of tape on it labelled "security seal" and I immediately thought "security guard seal".

Vinny of VInesauce had a joke back in the day about Bing Guy, and Bing guy always tried to hook you up with that rat porn, brah. So I was like, haha I'll make a rat when watching a Sunday stream in 2016. And then I did, and she has no connection to that joke. And ended up being a mouse, but yeah. That Jabroni inspired this gal.
