Divisions, Ranks.

Split into three divisions, each differing in size, The King’s Guard are a sizable force. The 1st RG is the biggest, with at most 600-1,000 troops under its command. The Blackbirds BN keep ~400, while the Black Watch CO is smaller at 50-100, it’s main focus centered on night time patrolling.

(Only the first Infantry is joinable at the moment to avoid managing three separate branches that still do similar things!)

Commander Shepard runs a tight ship and those in his ranks are highly praised for excellent performance - He expects the best from his men from the ground up, but sees his soldiers as family. Approach him for support and he will give it, provided it’s done with respect.

Rank Segments.

With such a large variety of skill and comfort-zones, most ranks, at the core, still follow a string of inter-rank positions that are selected by the private as they join - these segments of the Regiment allow for movement if one desires a shift in position.

Not every soldier in the Guard has to weild a weapon or prepare for battle, or use a sword, a bow, etc. There are a few specialised disciplines within the Private and Corporal ranks:

Medic
Deal with casualties in and out of active zones - Medics can specify if they want to be kept out of battle zones and stick to on-base care.

Archer
Archers main weapons are bows. Positioned at long range, archers must have eagle vision, speed and courage.

Swordsman
The assumed position for recruits. Swordsmen must be strong and agile, and unafraid to face fights at close range.

Gunman
Gunmen are among the smallest numbers in the Watch and often stand as extra archers.

Guard
A basic, low-risk position. Guards stand on duty around barracks while also joining other soldiers on patrols. They still must be vigilantly trained, for they keep each barrack safe.

(H) Chavalier
Mounted force. Upon joining the Chavalier rankings, recruits are fitted with a horse and trained in the art of mounted combat.

Weaponry

Outside of named sections, upon joining, badged Privates are kitted out with a simple Shortsword, a basic bow, and a basic gun. Shields at this rank are kept in stores for when needed, and all bear the company’s individual sigil.

Weaponry usually improves with ranking, and can often change with your preferences in training. Longswords and Claymores are second favourites for those who prefer double handed weapons. In-between ranks are provided with military sabres upon promotion as a small token of gratitude for their service.
Sergeant Majors and above are usually provided with a high-class arsenal, notably carrying Rapiers or Estoc swords that, while still very functional, are more decorative and elaborate than previous ranks.

Uniform

Uniform remains the same visually up to Sergeant Major, the only differences in prior rankings being the badges worn on the left sleeve. The outfit is comfortable enough, featuring a thin undershirt, golden metal breasplaete when in active warfare, collared jacket/military tunic, and a greatcoat when needed, with fitted pants and simple, short boots overlayed with puttee/leg wraps. Mounted units will feature seated pants and gloves, and often knee length riding boots with a set of silver spurs.

Like your weapons, uniforms must be kept in top condition - not just for visual sake, but for the wearers sake too. Tears must be reported as quickly as possible and repaired or replaced depending on the damage done. Under Shepards watch, you absolutely will be written up for a messy uniform appearance

Living Situations, Freedoms

Usually, privates are dcc1d4108e409f34496ac2bb2f568b67.jpghoused in military quarters with two to a room, similar to dorms. The building is large and quite pleasing to the eye, with ornate decor and a decorated garden. Of course, not everyone is required to stay in camp 24/7 - weekends are free to come and go as one pleases, and the living quarters merely act as an easily accessible hub to those who work every day. When not on duty, like any regular job, soldiers are free to come and go as they please, enjoy the large mess hall and bar, access to food, and entertainment such as a library, chess room and sparring halls.

Daily life, Training

Day to day life is determined by what is happening in Ivras. Patrols are usually done each day, with soldiers going from various outposts around Ivras and relaying important information, from monster sightings, criminal activity and notable faces encountered along the journeys.

Soldiers are expected to keep fit and healthy and are often seen sparring on the Regiment’s grounds or in the quarters gymnasiums. Forming a strong bond between your brothers in arms is an important part of being in the King’s Guard, so Shepard has ensured his soldiers have plenty to do with one another on the barracks, and often participates in weekly exercises with them to solidify partnerships and offer his help to those who may need it.

As a private company, Shepard may often accept bounty-like missions from those with the money to pay, so long as they do not break Ivras law or toy with any morals of the regiment.

Again, soldiers are not imprisoned here; characters are free to come and go as they please when they are not on duty, and those who remain on site more often than not are guards or office-based higherups.
