Lunar Zodiac

The following is a short dissertation of sorts-- little more than a quick explanation-- of the standard Ivratian zodiac, as written by Mochrie Collach (and assisted by Medea).

The zodiac follows a lunar calendar, meaning that there are no exact dates for each sign, as there could be anywhere from a day to a week of variation at the beginning/end of any sign, each year. Each sign lasts for one lunar cycle (new to full moon) of the year, leaving 13 signs over a 12-month timeframe. Although there is slight variation in exact dates each year, the signs always fall into the same portion of the seasons they occur during-- such as the Kettle always being at winter's end, or the Wheel being mid-fall.

The signs also have personality traits associated with them, and occasionally magics, but these are, as with most zodiacs, more superstition than anything else, and are not always adhered to; additionally, different subcultures within Ivras (or beyond) may view the personalities differently, or have varying superstitions/interpretations/accompanying myths.
