BEESS??

So, it's no secret that Foster wishes to ride into battle with his father and the Warriors three. But as a young prince, he is not permitted to even leave the castle grounds. However, after victorious battle, it is tradition for a feast. To prepare for the feast to mark glorious battle, large groups on horseback set out for a wild hunt, often seeking out anything from giant boars to bilgesnipe.

Still being a bab, no older then ten summers, Foster stole away in a hooded cape, mounted a horse and left with the hunters. In the large group, it was easy to blend in. However, the adventure did not go as planned. He was almost instantly separated from the hunting party and his steed threw him from it's back. It didnt take long before the young prince was lost in the wild. He was frightened.

Night fell and the warriors returned, including the King, who learned that his youngest was nowhere to be found. Instead of a feast, a search party was sent out instead. Out in the wild, Foster was just trying to keep away from the predators that were out when the sun set. His hiding spot was probing to be a terrible choice, as in the hollow tree he'd found, there was a hive of honey bees. Outside, was a tremendous bear.

Before the child could think, *-crunch-* the log was torn open and prince and bees were exposed to the beasts. Before Asgard could lose a royal child, an arrow struck the bear through the head, as the search party had caught sight of the two bears.

Ashamed and frightened, Foster did not want to face his father empty handed. So, using a walnut shell, he scooped up a bee from the mess just in time to be yanked up onto a horse by Volstagg. In silence, they rode back to the castle , his puny spoils of a hunt buzzing occasionally.

Suffice to say, Thor was relieved to see is son return unharmed, but was furious to learn he'd disobeyed him. Foster tried to offer his prize to his father as an apology, but Thor was in no mood to play games. He sent him to set the small beast outside and go directly to bed.

So, Foster went into his grandmother's courtyard. It was the one closest to his chambers and he spent days reading there, or nights, watching the fountain. He placed the bee and the shell into a hollow knot in a tree and left for bed without supper.

By the next morning, when Foster was  finally permitted to go to the courtyard to see his bee, he found that the exhausted creature had built a few small hexegons and laid eggs. She was a queen.  For the next year, Foster tended the single bee as her brood and eventual hive grew, and Foster grew as well. Without realizing a change, the Prince and the Queen had formed an alliance. Foster protected the hive and the hive would protect him right back.

TL:DR Foster saved a bee around the time his mutant ability kicked in and now he and bees are buds.

As a side note, he does harvest honey and he's now making small batches of mead with it.
